Fuel Consumption???

New to the forum.. Just got a 2004 lancer sportback ralliart yellow. I've filled the tank 3 times and only got 250km to the tank. I think there is a problem. I took it to the dealer and they said that if their was a problem the check engine light would come on. That if they put the scanner on and there was no code there is nothing they can do! and they would charge me the 90.00 for there time even if the car still had warranty. does any one know if this is normal if not anyone have any clues on how to pinpoint the problem. Help would be great. this is my first mits and I love it but the wife is pissed about the fuel. The car only has 30 000 km on it.

Thanks.

Start with usual tune-up...new plugs, new oil, new air filter, etc etc. After that, reset the car's ecu by disconnecting the battery for a minimum of 10 minutes. Then reconnect, start car and let idle for 10 minutes, then drive it around town so it'll relearn the driver's driving style.

Good luck!

Everytime the ecu is reset, your pretty much let it re-learn everything. So whether it new or old, that is the way to go to have the ECU adapt to your driving style. A good thing to do if buying a used car that is acting up. The previous driver might have been a maniac... allowing the ECU to adapt to that crazyness. Reseting the ECU will fix that problem

^Good post for being your first! and along with that, it'll adjust settings like A/F in case you moved to a higher or lower altitude climate.

Moved to correct forum, just for the sake of having things in order.
