Strut bar question
Strut bar question
So i was cleaning my engine today and noticed something out of place. I think my stock strut bar is bent here is some pictures and arrows pointing at the low and high spots .
since his question is already answered, if you don't mind me hijacking this thread, what does the rear strut bar really do? i have the rrm one in my car but wonder if it really does anything... or more like how does it do what it does, haha

That's a lot of hijacking for one day..
I got a lot of crap from my brothers when they saw my car at first saying how I bought a car with a bent strut bar.
After starring at it for a while, I noticed that if you look at the underside of your hood, the foam padding (or whatever you call that) has an indent exactly where the high point of the strut bar is so that the hood will close properly. That's how I assured myself it comes that way from the factory.
Edit: it handles great!

I hate it when people call it an 'emergency brake'. It's not. Yes, you can stop ur car via the hand, or parking brake when your hydraulic brakes fail, but it's not its designed function.
Infact, not even an aircraft has an emergency brake. It's a hydraulic system with a pneumatic back-up (everything in a plane has a backup).
Tractor Trailers with air brakes do have an emergency brake. When air is lost in both first and secondary tanks, spring tension will lock the brakes on.
Infact, all you do when you pull the parking brake in a truck, air is vented from the brakes, spring tension will lock the brakes on.
Anyway.. I felt the need to vent lol
Extremely terrible day...

I was under the impression that manual cars are to be left in gear when parked, thus the emergency brake is considered an e-brake because in the event of a failure or emergency it will prevent the car from rolling. Does the same in an automatic car when the parking brake fails..?
i think its funny how its called an emergency brake, because would you really use it in an event of an emergency? you see you are going too fast, the car is front of you at a dead stop, you dont pull on it, you would spin out of control. i unno, just my thought, i like to call it "ebrake" haha
Didn't know the e-brake had pads (this is because it doesn't)? The e-brake uses a drum that sits inside of the rear rotor. If it isn't working properly you probably just need to adjust the drum, the lever chord, or else bleed the air system. If you do need to replace it, it is a much more expensive job the pad replacement.
