Gauge & HVAC lights won't go on!

I had to drive at night blind. Speedometer, tach, fuel, gas lights not turning on. No light at all except fog/Hi-beam lights(strange..) The wire connections seem to be fine. Radio and buttons still work but lights won't go on and radio screen is dimmed? Don't know the problem unless it's a blown fuse or something.... any suggestions....?
TIA..

when i got my ralliart last nov, the speedometer wasnt working, so when i was driving to the dealership to have it fixed (on their penny too, score one for me! lol) i was on the highway and I just had all my gauges and lights shut off. car stayed on and ran fine, but according to the gauge cluster it was like the car was off.

One day's worth of labor later they called me and told me the speed sensor had shorted and got it all working again.

but yeah all those things happened to me, tach, speedometer, fuel, and everything turned off all at once. Hope it doesnt depress you but the dealership told me it was a $700 fix, i was happy i didnt have to pay for it

My gauges work (I put a cell phone light under it while I drove through the night). It's just the lights that won't turn on.

When something electrical stops working, check all the fuses first.

let me guess, you have a right side tail light/rear runnning light out as well...

this is almost definitly just a fuse out. when i installed my stereo a while back, i forgot to connect one wire, and then i started second guessing myself, ended up popping a fuse that runs all those circuits you mentioned as well as the right side tail light. should be like a 15a fuse in the engine bay fuse box.

how do you "check" the fuses? i know, its a dumb question but what are you looking for? a blown fuse that probably looks like a blown light bulb?

When you pull a fuse out, they have a little window on the side, you're looking for a disconnect in the little metal bit in there. If you're not sure after that, you can use a multimeter to check for continuity.

Same thing happened to me when installing my radio, it sucked cause I forgot to turn my lights on at dusk one night and got pulled over by a cop who tore my car up on violations...

Good Fuse:

Blown Fuse:

What to look for:
No connection between the left pin to the right pin, which is seen broken within the blown fuse photo...
Keep in mind to check for a blown fuse you have to actually remove each individual fuse to look at em'... Don't take them all out at once, do them one by one or else you'll mix em' up and all **** will fly..

If the regular lancer is setup like a evo (not sure if it is or not). Check to see if you have a tail light out (when you're headlights are on). If so, there are right and left 7.5amp fuse for each rear tail light circut under the hood. When one fuse blows, your tail light goes out, you loose the HVAC lights and the dash lights dim noticeably. Hope this helps
