changed oil, now cel on...

so i changed my oil yesterday and replaced it with royal purple synthetic oil, and now my car is starting to act up, and my service engine soon light came on today...it idles alittle high when i start it up at first then drops back down to normal idle (around 600 or 700 rpms)...it was my first DIY oil change but i know i didnt mess anything up cause its easy as hell to do...i think my engine is just trying to get use to new oil or something cause ive never used high synthetic in it before, just standard 10w-30 motoroil...any tips or advise would be much appreciated...

First never assume you did everything perfect!! i've learned that in mobile install business .... but check the level again after your car warms up, make sure its not leaking, did you change the oil filter to? it may not be the proper filter for your car. the best thing to do would be to check the code.... it could also be something that has nothing to do with oil, like an o2 sensor, any other mods??

hmmmm.... i just changed mine and used mobile one fully synthetic with the same samw oil filter as you did and didn't get a light... i would say now try to reset the ecu by taking off the negative terminal for 15mins and then let the engine idle for 10mins, it should smooth itself out. i think autozone will check your code for you. if i wansn't so far from you i would check your code for you, but my shop is in Tustin.

oh, man, i feel like such a noob...i solved my problem...i just disconnected my negative cable, and let it reset the ecu, and now shes all better...i had a feeling it would have been the most obvious solution...well everything is fine, and she pulls alot harder now, well at least it seems like it...oh BTW autozone doesnt do free code testing anymore, so thanks for your help bro

Code readers are cheap to buy. OBDII/CAN code readers can be had for ~$30.
