doing head work on my car
My car is undergoing some work right now (new heads and stuff). But I'm buying a old used head off ebay and then taking it to a machine shop to get ported & polished for cheap. Could be a good way to go for good gains along with the cam and under-drive pulleys, eh?
The thing is I would just take your wheel hp and calculate the crank hp. Then you will be able to compare it to the number manufacturers use and you will feel great. I would bet you will be well over 200 crank hp and probably ~170 whp.
This explains why I hate getting into "what will my car put down on the dyno". I like to tell people somewhere between 0 and 500whp. Really when it's a setup I've tuned 25 times already I do have a good idea but if the client happens to have a weak engine and it puts down 10 less than what I'm used to they go away disappointed just because of the numbers and not how it drives.
Case and point I did a honda turbo. The guy read somewhere on the interweb that he'd be making 620whp. I tried to tell him his turbo was only rated to 600bhp. Car put down 515whp at 24psi of boost. He was soooo disappointed even though it spun the tires in every gear.
