Answers for Rods that work in 4G69

ok to start off both the 2nd gen 7 bolt 4G63 and EVO 8/9 Rods will work in our block but there is one catch. They are both .050" shorter in length then our rods. The 2nd gen rod length is 5.900" and EVO's 5.906" (stock) 150mm. Ours are 5.950". So you will be .050" shallow in the bore. Wrist pin diameter is the same at .866". Rod Big end bore are all 1.88" and Big End width of 1.036-1.038". Now being shallow .050" compared to stock 4g69 rods can lead to less compression, increase in quench area, incomplete combustion, etc. I would suggest either increasing the pistion height. Even with turbo all the above is still an issue. If you have any questions feel free to write.

Thank you for your time.

Steve

the motor build is under way and its time to order my rods...

i want to keep the same displacement, and use stock size pistons, but 8.5 compression. What size evo rods should i buy? 2.0 liter or 2.3-2.4 liter kits?

Buy 2.0L rods. You will have to measure your bore for any taper. I would go .020" larger. This will allow more A/F mixture inside your combustion chamber which will equal more power potential.

The rods im going to order are going to be -

Evo 2.0 liter rods
5.906 rod length
.866 wrist pin diameter
1.036-1.038 Rod crank pin end width

I'm just torn between which company to order from...

either Crower, Eagle H-beams, or BRIAN Crower... Appearently Crower and BRIAN crower are 2 different companies. I had no idea.

anybody know which one i should get? which one is the strongest?

the biggest difference is in the rod bolt strength. its what keeps the con rod together. the higher the rating the more expensive they get

any plans for the cyl head?

In this thread can whoever list the basics for using the rods, perhapsa pistons, and perhaps anything thatll increase compression ratio in the ralliarts...?

You want to talk to SSP-Ralliart. he is the guy who is beefing his motor for higher compression. I'm just building mine up to make it super strong for more boost.

would a thicker head gasket compensate for the shorter evo rod?

local shop said cometic can make thicker gaskets for around $120 if we send an oem sample.

also, sorry maybe OT, but do we have performance valves, +1 or +2, available?

A thicker head gasket would have the opposite effect you'd be looking for. Shorter rod would give you less compression. A thicker head gasket would give you even less compression.

So my rods cam in the mail. I'm going to post a picture now for you guys to see and compare our stock rods, and Eagle H-beam rods, for an EVO8 that fits our car perfectly. Some say we dont "need rods, and ours is already reinforced"

one look at this pictures tells a different story...

I'm going to post this up on a few other threads, just so it'll be helpful for others to search and find out info for our car.

could you PM me the price you paid for the new rods? I'm pretty sure I'm going with JE pistons... as my tuner is familiar with them and he's going to draw them up for me.
it'd be nice to find some decent rods...
