Oil light + Rough idle

So for the last week every now and then my car has this terrible idle if I go over 2K then dies. Its not all the time, its very sporadic, if I turn the car off then turn it back on its fine. TODAY THOUGH, the engine oil light came on and now the rough idle is becoming more frequent. Unfortunately dealership isn't open till Monday, I did some research here and everything seems to be pointing to the oil pressure sending unit. Any other opinions? What else could it be?

oil pump?

this is probably a silly question but you do check your oil level, yes?

Is the oil light only on at idle? Is the idle lower than normal?

I'd start with the basics - inspect plugs, clean the MAF, reset ECU, then go from there.

I would check the oil dip stick-first. Make sure there is enough oil in the engine.

Idle and Oil Light are not related..If you were having an oil prob, you would know it and you would see low pressure and a knocking sound...which you haven't mentioned. Swapping the switch isn't going to fix the Idle. The rough idle could have caused the switch to lose its lead (wire) and thats about it.

Thanks all, yes I do check the oil regularly and there is plenty in right now. No leaks around the oil filter either.

Yes Otter, the oil light only comes on at idle. Once the car stops moving and the rpms go to 1000 or less then the light comes on. Idle will dip lower and you can tell the car is already at the point where its trying hard no to stall.

That's what I figured. The light is most likely being triggered because the idle is dropping too low, causing the pressure to drop below the level that trips the sensor.

is the air conditioner or rear window defrost on when this happens?
I know that on my car when either the defroster or the air conditioner is on my idle drops from ~750 to ~500

Some mods will give idle problems while the ECU is learning after being reset. I have a lightweight flywheel which does this to me.

where the hell is the oil pressure switch located in the evo engine bay???? My oil pressure light keeps coming on sporadically at idle. I may just clean out the lead and see if that works.

LMK, sorry for thread jacking. I just want to know the location.

I believe the sending unit is by the oil filter.

I've had the defrost on before and this has happened, but I have also had everything off and this has happened so I don't think the defrost has anything to do with it.

Your flywheel caused this? I have the lightened flywheel and clutch and I never had that issue. The only mod I have that I could even vaguely say could cause this is the 3.8L throttle body.

But I guess we will see soon enough, the car is at the dealership now so I hope to know by noon. My hopes are not high though for an answer, I dropped the car off and they immediately told me it was due to the aftermarket exhaust, but I got my fingers crossed for them to find the real issue.

So I got an update from the dealership, in total they pulled 5 codes (4 codes relating to the o2 sensors). Both o2's need to be replaced (not sure how much those are) and one code was 2101. Does anyone know what that code is? Its related to the throttle body.

^Yeah thanks, got that. Just don't know what it is or what can cause it. I've upgraded my throttle body and used the TPS from the 3.8L Eclipse so I am just curious what that code entails this way I can find out if the TPS from the new TB caused it.
