AC Issue
So I tried to turn on my AC the other day, and well... when no cold air came out, I wondered if I needed a recharge. Since I was in an accident recently, I went to the same shop that did my repairs to check the condenser and everything.
To my dismay, they checked everything up to the firewall for free and found no problem. This alarmed me because that means its something in the dash, or the computer that turns it on.
Right now the center console backlight does no illuminate. I wonder if thats the issue.
Also, my dial to change temp from hot to cold is incredibly hard to turn...
does anyone have any ideas?

I need to just make a flowchart for this. ;P
Does the compressor clutch engage? If not, check system pressure.
If compressor engages, does the pipe get cold?
If the pipe gets cold, is the air door in the plenum working? (get down in the driver foot well with a flashlight. Operate the temperature knob while looking at the plenum to see if it moves.

I know it doesn't help but my AC temperature control knob is also very hard to adjust. There's a deadzone at the very polar ends of the spectrum (as cold as possible before max AC and as warm as possible) where it turns freely but then anywhere in between the two is a pain.
I never got around to asking if anyone else experienced this.

He actually got it to work when he jumped it.
So the ac unit does work, it just doesnt turn on when its told to via the switch

Check the system pressure.

Pretty much all lancers from that year have the issue. I find that, if you get a "running" start, when turning the knob from hot to cold, the momentum seems to help.

Knob is not the main issue. They said they tested it and every wire they could.
They did it all for free as it was under warranty from the accident.
I'm wondering if the hvac cluster backlight and the bad wiring on the neons to the dimmer
Caused something.

what's up with the double posts dude.. lol you newb.
I'm having the same problem with my car. Compressor engages but hot air comes out. I've recharged it and it'll work for like 3 weeks then dies so I'm going sniffing for a leak. Did they try recharging the system? And what do you mean "when they jump it"???

haha I was just kiddin' dude. Figured it was because of that. Lemme know what they say because I'm yet to start sniffing around my engine bay for a leak. Probably behind my dash too since my car just loves to be a pain in the ****.
Just a side note: Springs here, time to clean your cabin air filter guys!
