the box is usually around the filter rather than headers/engine

IF you still have the little intake piece ment to scoop air from the hood gap you could just get a small metal piece and rivet it to it and that would help. But you have to understand that when the cars moving the air you feel when your under the hood is way different cause the air is being sucked out by the underside of the car and cool air is comming into there from the radiator despite the fans... hope that helps

i did that last year sometime. i noticed i was on the highway and it was pulling great, but then i realized it was because i forgot to close my hood. so i cut the piece off that did that with the stock air box and it helped a little. I cant go CAI cause it throws a lean code. so i went SRI, im just worried about heat soak.

Thats funny that piece comes off with a screwdriver but you cut it? Owell, but that the basic jist of it you just need to fab a piece to re-direct the air from the fan blowing at it if its bothering you that much.there are plenty of free bolt holes aournd the engine there to bolt somthing to and or attach it with somthing else. Ether way keep in mind that it should look clean to

I've seen some threads with pics of what you're talking about. I can't remember any of them off hand. Can't say for sure how good it works. I've got an SRI on mine right now, but I'm putting on the Injen CAI when it comes in this week.

In response to the ebay intakes: I'm not sure what intake you are using exactly, but if the diameter of the intake tubing is too large the MAF isn't seeing all the air that is actually getting to the engine. Its the same situation as if you had a leak in the intake tract past the MAF. The computer isn't compensating for the extra air by adding more fuel. The O2 sensor sees that the A/F ratio is too lean, throwing the code. So check for any leaks or compare the intake tubing size with another brand CAI if you can.

to you guys getting lean codes with intakes. i have a hacked up SRI that i made by cutting off the stock airbox and just adapting a AR cone filter and i had a lean code. i would just reset the ecu and drive a couple hundred miles and keep goin through that until i didnt have a learn code anymore.

i know that doesnt sound like it makes sense, because if you reset the ecu, you reset the ecu. you dont have to do it over and over,

BUT

that's what I had to do, and somehow my car eventually wasn't lean anymore. lol

im pretty sure this is 2 3/4''. when i had the whole piping installed it would shoot the code and i would reset the ecu by taking the neg terminal off. (thats the right way to do it, right?) so another 50-100mi later it would shoot. id reset. Etc. Since ive shortened it up ive had the code once in almost 2 years, who knows.....i think im going to opt with a non-ebay intake. less joint=less leaks. Im just worried about water, but i looove that sound.

so should i even be worried about heat soak with my cobbed up SRI? or should i fab up a sheild in an "L" shape and put it on the side of the cone closest to the header?
?
