looking for suggestions

okay so, to start, i have an 05 lancer ralliart and everything to do with suspension is stock. Going highway speeds (110-120 kmph) my car has a mad vibration from time to time, sometimes it vibrates then stops, then starts again at random. I have had all my wheel balanced and also has 2 alignments done recently but the problem persists. I also had mitsu check out the suspension and replace a sway bar link. Problem is still there... Do you guys know of anything else it could possibly be? Maybe need new tires? TIA.

Rotate your tires and see if the problem persists. Could be out of round tire.

I was having that prob but it tends to happen everytime I have tires rotated n balanced, I have to take it back to get rebalanced. Only reason I keep goin to the same shop is cuz they do it free :/

Also though pay attention to if its complete randomness or generally happens In the same area u drive a lot, mine will do this on certain points of road/freeway where the road is crappy

are you getting a static or dynamic balance done on the tires?
static they'll put the weights on the outside rim. dynamic they'll use those weight strips on the inside flat part of the rim. should yield better results.

I had this problem to. thought it was my tires. got them rotated and balanced. still happened. replaced both my front axles and the problem was fixed. Not saying it will fix YOUR problem, but i'm saying thats what my problem was. i think the driver axle needed replaced, did them both.

I would say do the tire work first. Dont work have a mechanic look at it, and keep in mind it *could* be your axles.

My car ran perfect 1-40 or so MPH. than at 45+ MPH it started to shake and vibrate. new axles and problem solved. Hope this helps.

it was a dynamic balance. I'll try replacing the tires and if not i will see what the dealer has to say. I would hope axles are are warranty, i'm still within the warranty limits.

It's not an issue of bending the axles, more an issue of one of the joints going bad. I have random vibration on my car at some highway speeds, but it's due to the inner joint on the driver's axle going bad. I just haven't bothered replacing it.

Since were on the subject of axels, do we share the same axles as the 02-06 oz rally?

I've had the same problem on my Subarus as they age. The symptom can be like you described, shaking the steering wheel intermittently. It's always a front drive axle. Sounds like that is what your problem is. I have had several replaced on my cars over the years, and i think it's actually cheaper in the long run to buy a brand new axle than get the popular rebuilt ones. Those rebuilds always crap out early - it depends who has rebuilt them but I think there aren't too many axle "artists" around.
