Question MIVEC SOHC 4-Valve???

I'm trying to learn more about how cars work so I've been reading articles over at auto.howstuffworks.com. Just as I think I'm gettingn the hang of things I see on the RallyArt spec page (http://www.mitsubishicars.com/mitsub...art_specs.html) MIVEC SOHC 4-Valve. This is probably a stupid question but doesn't there need to be at least 2 valves per cylinder? One for intake and one for exahust? As I understand it the current, 2003, lancers have 16 valves right? If someone could explain this to me I would be very greatful. Thanks.

This link should help. It's an original release.

At the Tokyo Motor Show, also showcased a MIVEC GDI 2.4l I-4 prototype, based on the new Global Engine design. It'll be interesting to see the specs on that and how will adapt it for global use.

PS Here's the tech update site for corporate

2 intake valves, 2 exhaust valves x 4 cylinders = 16V.

Q. What is MIVEC?
A. MIVEC is an acronym for 'Mitsubishi InnovativeValve timing and lift Electronic Control system'. It alters the profile of the cams to suit your driving demands. Thereby under low rev conditions the management system uses the smaller cams. The main feature however is if you open the throttle it can give the valves a longer duration and longer stroke providing maximum and efficient power and torque at all engine speeds. I amounts to an additional 20bhp over the standard engine.

Essentially VTEC.

Yes, since it's in the RA lancer, It can be naturally be in the es, LS, or oz. Unless, Mitsu made the lancer engine bay bigger over the past models.

The motor will fit yes, HOWEVER, this isn't going to be a head swap idea since the motors are different families. Just a heads up.

All this fascination with anything JDM... the only halfway decent motor that is related to the new MIVEC is the 4G63 and that thing puts out considerably less in NA form (see 1G Eclipses GS's) than the new MIVEC 4G64. Oooh, can't forget the old Starion engine which was a a SOHC 4G63 if I remember with a very simple EFI setup. I also fail to see the benefit of swapping motors when a much faster car could be built with a turbo setup, needless to say much easier to tune since you don't have to deal with a variable timing issue.

Eh...maybe not 64...but definitely close. It's basically the current 4G64 (Eclipse/Galant/Outlander 4 banger) with a MIVEC SOHC head. Need a LRA owner to look in the back of their manuals and and see what its official designation is.
