When the hell happened to my transmission
When the hell happened to my transmission
Last night I'm driving home and my starts making an ungodly whining sound. It has never made the sound before. But it's hard to accelerate and I pinpoint the noise coming from my transmission. 5th gear kept popping out. At this point I sad **** I just wanna get home.
I get to a traffic light..boom car won't get back into gear and all of a sudden a strong scent of oil comes into the car. I immediately shut it off and put on my emergency lights. I look on the ground and there's oil everywhere on the transmission.
I got my tranny rebuilt maybe 1K so this is really frustrating. Anyone have any ideas?

I have had first gear pop out, scary. But I'm not really too sure about what it is, maybe the person that rebuilt your tranny didn't do something right?? If its been that close to it being rebuilt I would take the car back to where you got it done and ask wtf is going on here.
About 16'000 or so km's ago I had a transmission oil leak coming from what they called the tranaxle inspection plate (sitting right at the bottom of the transaxle). Had a seal replaced under warranty and the fluid topped up.
Maybe something happened with that?
And if you just had your tranny rebuilt, they definitely missed something. Take it back, I'm sure they need to fix what broke now. Their work has to come with some kind of warranty for these things.
Needles to say that all the oil must of leaked out causing the tranny to fail.
And yea, why was your transaxle rebuilt?

A few months ago I grinded going from 1st to second. After that the tranny was never same. Eventually it kicked the bucket on my way home from work. So took it to a shop, reputable shop. Got synchros and seals and other crap replaced. Apparently the main shaft in the transmission seized up. I also got my slave cylinder and clutch master cylinder replaced, and my flywheel as well. That was about 1000 miles ago. I don't drive my car much so for me that as 3 months ago.
The car is going back to the shop this morning. Maybe there's a bigger issue the shop did not see. I won't bad mouth them b/c I know they do excellent work, they also did say if it's anything they did wrong they would cover the repairs. Stay tuned....

Hopefully they don't play the" mitsu blame game", where the techs just look for anything to play the problem on you, that's the stealership technique anyway. Good luck hope it works out for the best.
Main shaft in the transmission snapped. So I'm gonna do what I should have done in the first place...replace the ****er. Are the tranny's from 04-06 inter-changebale, I assume yes.

well wait now... you got an 04, so your drivetrain warranty is good till 2014. Are you past the 160'000 km yet?
Cause if not, warranty might cover it. Unless your turbo'd and pulling lots of HP, why would that shaft snap so easily? Meh... I'd try it.
