E-Brake Light

So im driving along one day doing about 80 on the expressway, and all of a sudden my E-Brake warning light comes on in my dash. I freaked out thinking my friends were playing a joke on me, which wouldn't be such a funny joke if we started spinning while going that fast. However, my E-Brake hadn't moved. Since then the light just likes to come on whenever it likes and tends to turn off when the car accelerates or if I give the car a little jerk by hitting the gas while in second or third gear. Anyone have this problem before or know what I should do? I recently removed all of my dash pieces and the middle console to repaint everything but I don't think this would have caused an issue with the E-Brake. WTFF

I had the same issue and it was because my rear brakes need to be changed. Dont ask me how that works but thats how it happened with me. The stealership told me the same thing. I changed my pads and poof problem gone..

Check your brake fluid reservoir. You're probably a little low on fluid.

In the case of changing the pads, you had to compress the calipers to put in new pads, which pushed the fluid back up to the reservoir.

+1 your fluid is low most likely due to fluid filling the calipers. try doing a break job. or add fluid but remember next break job remeber you have excess fluid in there it may over flow

My breaks are fine i know that for sure. Just had them changed recently. Fluid must be low. I will check into that once it's light outside. Thanks, much appreciated

And be glad you don't have to pull the motor out of a Lancer to check the brake fluid. I'm in the middle of a valve cover gasket change on my Kawasaki Vulcan, which requires the entire motor to be removed from the bike. What the heck were they thinking?

On my VW Bus, I can change both valve cover gaskets in less than 5 minutes, without any tools.
