Help! with shift bushings
Doing mine under the hood. took me hours and i'm not done. The bushing is stuckin there. It wouldn't pop out, and when trying to pop it out, a piece ripped off. I ended up cutting it down but I can't get the whole thing off. Any ideas? I can't drive my car right now!
i left it for the night cause it's getting dark so i'm gonna work on it again in the morning. I have no solvents....the only things I have are some bicylcle lube and anti-sieze i bought for the new bushings. I included a pic to illustrate what i'm talking about.

ugh....i'm assuming the big bushing is the same since i tried to grab at it with my fingers and it wouldn't budge. I'll have to go to canadian tire in the morning. good thing i have a few days vacation this week. what exactly would i be looking for when i go in?
and i'll try and just soak it with oil....but if i did need to use heat, how would i go about doing that?
Thanks....no one i know personally would have any idea what i'm talking about.

Looks like you have the rubber out but the outer steel bushing is still attached. All you need is a hack saw blade. Wear a glove or wrap some tape around a few inches to protect your hand and hack away. once you are through the thin bushing it will come out very easily. Take your time and check that you are not cutting into the cable housing, although a small amount will not hurt a thing.

picked up some pb blaster this morning....sprayed it and let it sit for about 5 hours. wouldn't budge. What a hassle. I'm not even gonna attempt the big one. i sprayed it again and will laeve it over night. I'll prob have to go pick up a dremel or heat gun tomorrow.

so I cut off one side of the bushing insert. about a third of the surface area with a dremel. it still won't budge. sprayed it with pb blaster again hoping since one side is gone, that it'll soak in a little better now. i think i'll have to go pick up a heat gun. I need this fixed today cause i need to go back to work tomorrow.
I need a cordless heat gun cause i live in an apartment and the car is out in the parking lot. I don't even know if one exists. The only option option i can think of is a propane torch, but i don't like the idea of using a propane torch around the engine bay. Any other ideas?

got another pic of the progress? if you have half of it cut away, then you should be able to use a screw driver to keep prying or use a pliers to start pulling the remainder off. You might have to use heat though.
