temp knob
temp knob
hey so we got some snow last night and my car had sat for about 2 days in below freezing temps. went out to start it up before a long drive and was going to turn the heat up but when i twisted the knob it snapped right off. has anybody experienced this before? does anybody know part numbers for the little white piece that actually fits behind the knob and the knob itself? going to search through my manual when i get out of work but any heads up would be greatly appreciated.
From what I can tell, that part isn't available by itself, you have to buy the entire assembly (includes all the knobs, cables, panels, etc), which is part number MN185138HA.
Just find a Lancer in a junkyard and take the part from there. All Lancers, 02-06, should use the same part.

#73 is my how to on taking out and putting in the hvac unit.
#75 is the link to the TSP, its some good info and prob would be a good thing to do but im lazy and thats a little too much to do for me right now.
just to warn you, putting in the unit will be harder then taking it out. those little metal tabs i have in the pics in #73, are a PITA!!! but it can be done after a few small cuts and some loud obscenities being shouted. good luck.

yea i thought i remembered seeing that you ran into the same problem. my knob was always a bit stiff and i knew it was a matter of time. right now some needle nose pliers are doing the job, but im hopefully find a parts car tomorrow/tuesday. think i might get a carbon fiber cover for the stereo area to make things look at bit nicer too. thanks for the links and pics they should definitely help when it comes time to switch everything over. hopefully i can get it all taken care of before the weekend, snow is coming =D. i'm also going to see what lancers they possibly have sitting around so if i find some good parts i can post prices etc. if anybody is interested.

but yea good luck on the part search. when you do install it, just look down by the gas pedal, where the cable connects, you can actually move that plastic piece that opens and closes the HVAC lever with your foot. makes things easier when you turn the knob. have fun

i was thinking of getting this and just modding it a bit to fit a stereo instead of a gauge cluster

though, self wrapping would probably be a lot easier as long as you know what you are doing. Just trying to get a good look to match the cf that runs through the top of the dash. ive always been referred to carbontrix for anything along those lines so i always thought that would be best. let me know how yours turns out, i would def. be interested in it if goes over well.
