Hard to tell if was coming from the motor or the trans, does the noise go away when you push in the clutch? if not i sounds like rod slap (easy with the bad jokes) meaning you spun a Bering

Don't start it anymore. That sounds like a spun bearing, but hard to actually tell, but in any case, it is a problem within your internals. Sorry to say, that engine probably needs to be torn down and rebuilt.

If you can't do it yourself, then go to a reputable place to have them look at it. I would not drive or start it any more at this point. Depending on the cost, it may be cheaper to get a used engine and have that one replaced. That you could potentially do yourself and save on the labor. The 2.4 engine is pretty well used in the mid-market for Mitsu. It's one of their best commercial engines out there.

how hard do you think it would be to throw in an evo 8 motor in the car ecu and everything? or just rebuild my motor with aftermarket parts for better internals

hard and more expensive than just rebuilding. i'd say only replace what needs replacing for now to see how much it would cost and depending on your budget after that you can see what you wanna do about aftermarket stuff

If you have to ask the question then it's probably not a project for you because that's what putting an evo 8 drive-train and ecu would be, a lengthy project. I'm betting that you are like the majority of us here and can't afford the time, money or learning curve to do this type of project. It will consume you and all of your resources. With that said, I'd look into getting the engine rebuilt or dropping a used one in. But you have to understand first what is the issue. A reputable mechanic should look at your car and help dissect the issue to nail down what is wrong. From there you could either do the work or pay to have it done.

As Raikiri said, take a look at his thread, he did a rebuild and added a few upgrades.

If you are going to do the rebuild, you can do some other things that will help that 2.4 get more ponies. Balance shaft elimination can free upwards to 15hp, you will be changing the timing belt and pulling the engine anyway. You have other options as well for upgrades that would be within the ecu's learning curve (cam, head, lightened flywheel, ect).

A longer warranty is useless when the dealership denies to do it, or does it so crappily that you get your car back in worse condition than when you brought it in...
