Thumbs down Wow!.........

Went on a casual drive today and stopped at north side mitsubishi to book a service appointment for the 78'000km service (consisting of an oil and filter change).
The service rep advised that it would be 512 dollars, due to the mechanics adding a pH balancing thing to the coolant, checking the spark plugs and the brakes for wear, blah blah...
After a brief discussion about what the 78'000km service consists of as per the maintenance manual, I was informed that some of the things listed on the piece of paper he showed me I "didnt need anyway". I couldnt help it but responded with a "i dont need any of em".

But wow... now for only an oil and filter change they are charging me 61 bucks. Still, a bit on the high side, but whatever.

Changing whole cooling fluid, using approved coolant and distillated water : 40$ MAX
Changing spark plugs to platinum's : 100$ MAX
Changing all pads : 100$ MAX

Getting ripped off : Priceless!

thats if you do it yourself...
if ur at a shop add at least $100 to each of those for labor..
still even for full synthetic and one of those high mileage filter i wouldnt pay $60 for an oil change...

+1 my oil changes are like $30 with the mobile 1 oil + filter special at advance.
its all full synthetic too.

my timing belt change is the only thing im having a shop do for me. i just dont have the time to do it, and the labor is really cheap.

everything else ill do myself. that way you can learn a bit more about your car and how it all works.

Even at quick lubes an oil change will cost around 50 bucks, so another 10 bucks is ok. plus they usually spray off my car when I bring it in dirty. if i had a garage id do it myself, but I don't, so I'm not. I'm not a fan of laying in the mud and snow.
What I'm trying to point out is how they are turning a simple oil change into a 3 hour service. The sad part is that most people would just agree to that nonsense and get raped royally.

I think it's at 30, 60, and 90k service. I'm going to replace mine at my 90k service, didn't do it at 60k.
