But he is not the only one who runs their oil for 16,000 miles or more or a full year.

The oil was designed to run that long, you ask but why can ASMOIL do it and Mobil can't,,, well easy to answer we use good oil base stocks Group 4's and mobil does not,

ASMOIL was the first in synthetics back in the 70's when Aircraft was using them AMSOIL said lets use this on cars,, good ole America

I'm not doubting the functionality of the oil as I have no experience with it. I'm just saying even if a oil is made to last long, the impurities that the engine produces does not decrease. The filter can only filter out so much of the impurities before they're just floating around in the oil which can potentially harm your engine.

Is my logic incorrect or is that the benefit to the oil?

For $50 I'd rather be cold and on the ground for the 10 minutes it takes to do it myself.

You only run the oil for that long, not the filter. If you're running Amsoil for 15k then I would still change the filter at the factory recommended intervals (7500 miles) and top off the oil.

when changing the filter doesnt all the oil come out anyway? or only a little bit since it all sits in the oil pan? i just remember when changing my oil once the filter comes off i get splashed with more oil (this is after i drained the pan)

i've never only just changed the filter and not the oil.

God this. Or if anything go buy all the things you need an take it to a local mechanic. Most of the ones ive talked to only charge 10-15 bucks to swap it out.

If you let the car sit a while all you would really have is what is in the filter. The rest would be in the oil pan.

That reminds me, I have to pick up oil & filter for my car. It's been only 5000 miles, but 13 months since I changed it last.

[mumbling to self...]
What was the part number of that filter? PL14460? PL14610 is the one for my bike....

AMS says

"By extending oil drain intervals through its premium formulation, AMSOIL Synthetic Motor Oil saves drivers money. A value comparison shows AMSOIL Synthetic Motor Oil costs less than competing motor oils over 25,000 miles.
While competing motor oils must be changed up to five times over 25,000 miles, AMSOIL Synthetic Motor Oil is only changed once, saving both time and money."

That's a little over 40,000km....i've never heard of anyone running oil that long.

Look into Detergents and Dispersants,,, they may answer your questions above

look around these very forums there are Evo's running it to 14,000 on a high performance car you dont want to go over that.

And you are asking yourself how the heck can AMSOIL do this, well simply design a good oil with a good detergent package with a high TBN number and you have yourself a synthetic that will handle the use and abuse.

Group 4 oils are much stronger than your off the shelf oils, ASMOIL mostly uses Group 4, not blends or petro based oils.

To understand more about oil and it's makeup, you should visit Bob The Oil guys website, invaluable info here.

I have used Mobil 1 5W-30 since 6000 kms. When I could not change it myself because it was against the rules of my building, I would go to a small mechanic's shop and he'd do it for $15, $20 with tyre rotation. I buy oem filters from Southwest at $4.31 per. I used to buy Mobil 1 when Cdn Tire had it on sale, now I buy it at Walmart in the US for $22 for the 4.7l jug. I own a house with a garage now, and I dont like the cold either, so I change in November and that gets me to spring. I change both oil and filter at 9000 km. It's half way between the recommended 6000 - 12000 from Mitsubishi. I dont care how long the oil can last. Changed the gearbox oil today and put in Amsoil MTG. Subject to how that works out, I may try Amsoil for engine oil too. I just saw how much Amsoil synthetic costs. I'll continue with Mobil 1.

I just switched to Royal Purple and I like it, I did see a bit of a difference in power( maybe it's only mentaly). I start using it mostly because once a month I race my car at Autocross.
My question is, with my conditions how often should I change it?
