04 Ralliart Stock stereo help

Hey everyone,

I recently just bought a 2004 lancer ralliart and was surprised when I went to turn on the stereo. It seems that the stock head unit is installed and turns on properly, but no sound comes out through the speakers. After doing some investigating I found out that the previous owner seemed to install an after market amp and head unit, but just seemed to plug in the stock head unit before selling it. In the trunk of the car I located many lose wires that seemed to connect to an after market amp, but now the wires are just residing in the trunk. When I removed the stock head unit it seems like some of the wires in the harness are crimped together and then feed into the trunk. I am just wondering what the best thing to do in order to get the stereo up and running again. I am fine with having the stock stereo installed, but is there a stock amp I need to connect the lose wires in the trunk too? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Also I posted this in the audio section, but I think that section is more for showing upgrades and such and this question is more general

Check the fuse that feeds the amp, can you read a circuit diagram?

There is no amp connected anymore. It seems like the previous owner just unplugged an aftermarket amp and left the wires in the trunk. That's why I was asking what the best solution for me do is. I just want to setup the stock cd player again.

Durr, i'm a dumbass, thanks Raikiri. That's what i was getting at without actually knowing what sound system he had, lol. Yeah it makes a big difference whether or not you have sun and sound.

there is no sun roof so I am assuming I don't have the sun and sound package. I will check to see if the amp is underneath the front seat in a little bit. If it is present do you think I will be able to just connect the loose wires in the drunk to the stock amp or do you think it will be a lot harder than that?

i'd say a bit more complicated. your best bet would be to take it to a shop that specializes in this sort of thing so at least if it fails its not completely on you

Yea I was thinking about bringing it to a shop, but I brought it to Best Buy and they want 50$ plus parts and I would rather just take all the time I need to do it myself especially if it is an easy fix. I just don't know where to start haha. The head unit turns on there is just no sound yet, maybe that is a positive start haha

is it not possible to have the sound without the sun? either way, with the sound package you would have a stock sub in the trunk, and tweeters in you A-pillars (although some models i believe had tweeters, but no amp or sub).

can you describe or take pictures of the loose wires in the trunk? there should only be 3 if it was amp power (+12v, ground, and remote)

if the head unit has power that good kinda, i'm going over the diagrams right now

I know I have the tweeters, but I am unsure of the sub. I can take a bunch of pictures in about an hour and a half and post them here. I know there is an extra power cable going from the battery to the trunk also, but the pictures will do my memory a lot better.

So I looked and I didn't find an amp under the front seat so I am assuming it is just a regular 6 speaker set with the tweeters and without the sub. I have taken some pictures of the loose wires in the trunk and I have taken out the head unit and taken a picture behind it. Hopefully someone can help me with all this new information

that is a mess, it looks like they were running the speakers from the amp?

*edit*
If you plan on getting an amp and sub, you can probably leave the power, ground and remote lines, but cap them off if they are already hidden well. The rest you will have to pull them out. and reconnect everything back the way it should be. As in disconnect unlike colored wires, and reconnect them to the one that has the same colour pattern on the connector.

it looks like they were running left and right side on seperate channels (balance), but connected the front and back (left and right respectively) in series, so there would be no fade.

Ok thanks for the great information that really gave me a better understanding. If I didn't want to install a sub or amp and I just wanted the stock headunit to work again would I need to buy a new wiring harness or what would be the best step. Thanks again

Personally, I would pull all that wiring out of the trunk. It looks like hell, and probably wouldn't work very well for very long if you did hook another amp to it. Ditch the spaghetti, and fix up your factory harness with some solder and heat-shrink tube.

Might need to reconnect the factory speaker wires at the speakers, the previous owner undoubtedly disco'd them to hook up to his amp.
