Overheating Issues? :(

So, not sure if this is the proper section for this but alas here I go!

So I was driving home from work today, there was a lot of stop and go traffic due to construction and it was quite hot outside. As I driving, at a snail pace, I realized my car seemed ridiculously hot and looked at the temp gauge to see it was very close to max temp and I was watching the gauge rise so I immediately pulled over, turned off the car and opened the hood.

I was stunned as to why this happened... I recently purchased the Ralliart and I have a detailed record of regular maintenance. The only thing I did that I usually don't do that day was show a buddy at work my car, started it up, popped the hood, it idled for 5-10 minutes while we checked it out and I showed him the nifty dipstick my coolant has... I'm thinking could a pocket of air somehow gotten into my system when I showed him the coolant dipstick while it was running? Or is this an entirely different issue?

To carry on with my roadside 'issue' I waited for the car to cooldown, waited some more, had a smoke, ate my sandwich, then started it up and drove cautiously and nervously home without issues or any sign of damage.

Has this happened to anyone else? I'm quite concerned because this shouldn't be happening to a 2005... plus to add insult to injury, I replaced my prior daily driver **** mobile with this Ralliart because it overheated and cracked the camshaft while my fiance was driving home.

Any tips/advice would be much appreciated fellow Lancer owners!

Check to make sure your fans are coming on correctly. Our fan controller unit.s seem to go bad on the Ra's. A few weeks ago I was sitting at a park idling and it started overheating. I noticed my fans weren't coming on. Replaced the unit and had the overheating then realized the wire that ran to the fan controller was cooked and after fixing that it works. So all in all. Check youth fans to make sure there not doing anything funny

^^^^What he said. My controller went bad as well and I replaced it but then the passanger side fan motor died on me. Luckily I found a replacement at the junk yard otherwise it would have been $381...

air shouldn't get into the system via the overflow reservoir, if you think you might have air in the system let it idle with the rad cap off for a few minutes.

But as mentioned above check fan control, also turn AC on and the other fan should come on, and then go get your coolant checked, you may have cooked it

Yeah, I'm not 100% sure what the issues was because it's been running fine since then but, I'm taking it into the shop tomorrow, I made the appointment last week because I'm driving to Edmonton and back next week and want to make sure everythings Kosher for a long fast haul (I plan to open up on those gorgeous roads ). I'll mention to them exactly what happened and get new coolant and an oil change.

I appreciate all the feedback guys, this forum is beyond helpfull!

*edit* and I did follow your guys' advice and check the fans

You should probably take it easy on those gorgeous roads until your car is fixed, or at least until you know what is wrong with it. Being stranded ****ing sucks, and you could possibly do more harm to your car.

Yeah the fiance has a membership from all the problems with her prior car, haha

I agree bro, definitely worth it

I'm getting the timing belt replaced today and getting a new fan sensor, it turns out my fans were coming on but, would periodically not work. Which turned out to be the sensor apparently. I decided not to cheap out and spend some of the money I saved on the purchase.

Thanks for the help, guys! Cheers

Did you end up getting everything fixed? If so, how much did you pay (if you don't mind me asking)?

Hey dude, I don't mind at all

I just got back from putting 2700km on the car It held solid... pushed him to 190km/h on a straight away and it felt smoooth as butter, what a nice car

My best gas was 600km on one tank with 91 octane... that was 85% of the time in 5th gear around 120-140... damn I wish we had a 6th gear though... those high rpms are ****in loud!

As for my repairs... what it turned out being was the fan belt sensor which I replaced for $150... and then I went with an inspection/ oil change/ all new fluids/ rotated tires/ entire timing belt kit (waterpump and all that jazz)/ and replaced some worn belts. The entire repairs all done with oem parts at the local DSM dealer was $1100cdn including taxes. I was leaving the next day and wanted to make sure the ralliart was 100% A little pricey but, for peace of mind on a time constraint, worth it in my opinion.

I've got a load of pics I took with my fiances camera I'll post up later I went through Jasper provincial park and got some nice shots with lakes/mountains behind the beast
