Unhappy Coil pack problem.....help please!!

ok well it's two things that happened both at once....!

driving at about 120kmh...car seems just fine..all of a sudden it start misfiring.
pull on the side of the road:

1) the temp gauge starts going right up
2)the idle is crap..sounds like it wants to cut off.

so get it towed home..and checked it out.
One of the coils has a slight swell on the side....for sure this is what was causing the misfire. I have no greddy emanage installed. So i have no clue how this coil went. It worked fine for years!
As for the overheating problem....it's not overheating at all....There's a fault in the gauge all of a sudden.

Only thing I can think of is this..
A couple days before a starter wire grounded off causing my battery terminal to melt!! Got it fixed and sorted that out. I think that this may have damaged the gauge cluster.
But could this have damaged the coil too??? Please help
I have a new coil..but dont want to put it in, in case this happens again.

Thanks in advance!

If you had a sort that could melt a battry post and you're now seeing a guage problem, I 'd try looking for other wires that may have been affected. If the original short overheated and melted part of your wiring harness you chould be in for any number of "mysterious" electrical gremlins.

Have you done a coil resistance check with a meter?

SECONDARY COIL RESISTANCE CHECK
Measure the resistance between the high-voltage terminals of
the ignition coil.

Standard value: 8.5 − 11.5 kΩ

I am at home and do not have the SVC manuel to give you the specs of the coil you will need a fluke meter to measure the ohms...

cool..
and no i used to have emanage..had the coil problem..
it stopped...
but since the battery pole melted(due to a starter wire grounding off) one of the coils are messed up.
just wanted to know if the grounding of the wire could have caused this?

well i suppose...
everything is running fine except for that gauge..
it keeps goin up and down..but the car is not overheating at all. Getting an aftermarket temp gauge installed today to be on the safe side

How do you test the coils? What ohm setting do I put my meter to and what points do I contact on the coils?
