Oil pressure gauge
Oil pressure gauge
I was playin with the thought of putting in an oil pressure gauge maybe in an A piller pod or something. Id like to keep it cheap, say under $100 but i definately dont want a mechanical with a tiny hose going to it, id rather do a electrical with a sender and such. I saw cranswicks video on youtube which helped, but he didnt mention the brand name. does anyone know of what brands to go with and what xtras need be purchased? id like to stay cheap cuz im about to get the timing service done, plus considering a clutch, as i have 98000 miles and to my knowledge it hasnt been done yet. Im also wanting to get rims and tires in a few months cuz im tired of swapping my blizzaks on and off twice a year.

You could have posted this in my turbo thread, and also take note of my signature, i used a Glowshift oil pressure gauge, i don't think you can get much cheaper...they have an Ebay store as well as a web store. The A-pillar pod i think is like $60 and the gauge was like $50 something...also remember you need a source for oil under pressure, and you still want your stock oil pressure switch, so you'll likely need the adapter. I remote mounted my sending unit because it is quite big, Roblaza told me there are gauges with much smaller sending units, i'm not sure which brand. So that puts you over budget...however, there are other types of pods, and not to mention, if you don't mind the stripped interior race car look, you can just mount the gauge with metal brackets, or find a place where you can cut through interior trim with a hole saw...you can do anything you want, really, it's your car, but the full a-pillar cover can be removed, and installed in a way that you could take it out and no one would know it was there...it's an expensive thing to do, even if you buy inexpensive parts, especially since it really does nothing for the car...
i guess the reason im toyin with the ide is cuz my stock oil sender is going bad nd i thought this could bw a nice little upgrade to the interior of a stock vehicle. i know the stock sender is only like 8 bux from advance auto and that really would be the cheap way to go. I have an agreement with my wife that when something breaks we replace it with high performance parts, i had a freind do that with a mustang and over time it turned intoa pretty hot car, unfortunately (?!) the only things to break so far is the fan controller (no hotrod option there) and the oil pressure switch (no hotrod option there either) so after 2 years of stock ralli im getting impatient. lol
I actually saw your video on youtube directly without finding a link on here, that why i didnt see your signature. I recognized the name cuz i had seen your postings on here before.

well the stock oil pressure switch is still required, without it, either your oil light will always be on, or never come on, obviously if you had a gauge you'll know if you have oil pressure or not, but nothing grabs your attention like an indicator coming on in the gauge cluster...that and i'm not quite sure how the ECU would react if it was not getting a signal from the switch.
To answer Cranswick's comment, I'm running the Prosport Premiums. Awesome little gauges but a little more pricey than the Glowshifts, and the sender is much smaller.
If you go to Prosport's website they offer an adaptor plate that screws on before you install the oil filter, and has 3 ports for installing the sender/s. Much easier than finding a hole in the block or tapping into anywhere. The adaptor plate can also be used with other senders provided the thread pitch is the same. I'd suggest a google search for Prosport Guages to see what they have, and if they can help you out.
On second thought, here are some links:
Adaptor Plate (you want the M20)
Prosport Premium series gauges
I like the premiums because you can daisy chain the power ect to them. So instead of wiring 2+ gauges individually, you wire the first one (power, ground, illum, 12V switched), then you plug a separate cable into that gauge and run it to the second, and so on. VERY CONVENIENT!

good info Rob, also this is the adapter i used:
http://www.stealthmodeperformance.co...blockfit.shtml
It has provision to run the stock pressure switch, my gauge sending unit, and also will feed oil to my turbo, and comes with plugs, so you can eliminate temporarily, or permanently any of the available ports...
