Mivec in Eclipse?

Will an 04 Ralliart engine bolt into an 01 Eclipse? Both are 2.4 manual just curious if anyone has done it.

Id say you probably could. Be a bit more work than youd expect though Id imagine.

But personally I wouldnt bother. My brother and my friend both have 3g Eclipse (2000 and 2003) and they are both wanting to do 4g63 head swaps on their cars, gives you DOHC, more aftermarket support, and a good engine to make some big power if you add a turbo and a few internal upgrades.

I'm running oval track and can't run a turbo and wiring and all that is no big deal. If i run sohc there's no weight rule but with dohc you have to weigh 2600# . My Lancer weighs 2330# with me in it but i cant get it to handle like the Eclipse I drove this weekend but the Lancer feels like it pulls a little hard out of the turns.

That racing sounds like alot of fun.

I guess it is a matter of weighing any gains with a 4G69 vs a 4G64 which is what it sounds like you have. I think the 4G69 is lighter based on a document I read a while ago too, so that would be a plus.

I have not done it, but I cannot think of a reason it wont fit. Based on the research I've been doing, the 4G6 series seems to be interchangeable for not too much effort as long as the transmission mounts on the same side of each engine. I do not know your current set up or what the rules are, but you may have a benefit too from using a gearbox and final drive from a 2004-2006 Lancer Ralliart, as they are geared quite low.

Post some pics of the race car if you can please.

Ah ok! I didnt know the reasoning behind it. In that case the 4g69 is the better choice. My friend (the 2003 eclipse) has done several mods to his car and my auto RA with only an SRI and aftermarket muffler still outruns his.

Check out this website: http://projectzerog.com/sirius_engines.shtml

It has a LOT of helpful information about the 4g6x engines and should give you a good idea of what your getting into. But I would love to see a 4g69 powered 3g Eclipse. The swap shouldnt be that difficult as 2006 RA said most of the parts are interchangeable.

Keep us posted, and good luck!

It's funny how you mention the gearing. With the tires I'm running 225/50-16 right side 205/40-16 left side my car hits about 6600 rpm. I put them on the Eclipse i borrowed this weekend and was in the low 5000's. I had to put both 205/40-16's on front of the Eclipse to get to around 6000 rpm.

Actually there was a swap done on that generation eclipse. It's a 3rd Gen correct? Sadly the person that did this swap is no longer alive He was a member over on club4g. I want to say he did the v6 mivec engine into the car. He had to have a mivec activation window made so that mivec would engage. Sadly I can't find the link for his car over there...

all 4G6x blocks are very similar, i can't see there being much difference between the 4G64 and 4G69 other than the 69 has
mivec...

I used to run an old model eclipse 1g I never had to buy a new part for it I had parts cars everywhere. This ralliart is breaking me up its every week or to I have to buy something and the parts did this car is higher than most. I lost my clutch this past Saturday and the local parts store says $350 for a new one. Is it me or are the parts for these cars three times higher than they should be.

I thought they were a bit more expensive as well. I figured since the Galant and Eclipse are both using these engines now that prices would go down a bit but I havent seen any change... I guess its still a fairly uncommon engine and so they can keep the prices up. IDK. It would be nice if they would get a bit cheaper though...

You figure a lot of 4g eclipses use the 4g69 as well though, so it's hard to say.

As for the swap, it would be cool but if I had a 3g I would most likely go with a dohc 63 head and all that jazz, but to each his own.

I think he wants to avoid DOHC.
