Removing trunk wheel well carpet

I am in the process of trying to remove the carpet lining to expose the top of the shock tower. I got the plastic taps removed, some saved others broke. The carpet is a one piece rigid piece. I tried a few different angles and it seems to want to bend and break. I do not want to have this is 5 pieces and try to mend it back together. Do I have to remove more than just the taps and the one screw tap? I am going to put a brace in and hopefully can get it to fit. It is off one of my old cars, right length but I have to get the ends changed to match the bolt pattern. I am going to try and cut a slit in the liner so it slides back in place for a clean look. That is another job and I just get them out first. Thanks in advance.

Did you take off the plastic piece in the very rear around the trunk latch? If not take it out and as long as all the anchors are gone the sides should slide right out.

I will give that a try tonight if the little one stays in place long enough. She is almost 2, and she is very "helpful" in the garage. I do not know why I overlooked that piece. Thanks again, hopefully in a week or so I should have it installed. I do not have a welder, so the end pieces I am in the mercy of a friend.

Thats rrm's rear strut bar btw , but you are talking about a welder. Are you making some kind of X Brace for the rear?

The welder is for the two end plates on this rear bar. It might need a change or two for fitment issues. I think it will fit right up though.

After a few different tactics the bar I have will not fit. Since it is for a whole different car, I knew it might not work. I had to try, it was from my previous car that got wrecked. It is short by about 3 inches, and the design will not clear the recessed area where the towers sit. Thanks for the tips. Maybe if I get froggy I will have my buddy help extend it and do some magic, but he is a family man with little free time. Might just bite the bullet and get one that is made for the car.

I don't have pics of the brace at the moment. My camera is not in the best health. Too many drops and things of that nature by the little one.
