Single din filler ideas?
Single din filler ideas?
I've searched but havent really found much...
I've recently completed the radio relocation mod in my lancer, but it's left me with an open single din hole where the radio used to be. I need ideas on how to fill it up. I've thought about just buying a pocket/cubby to put in there or even just a filler plate (i'm leaning towards the pocket though). What have you guys seen/heard of for filling the void?? I'd like it to be functional if at all possible...

Why not get the bezel with the places for gauges? Or a car-puter. I wouldnt relocate my radio if it wasnt for either of those or a custom double din radio and that'd mean puttin the HVAC down below instead.
i like the dash gauges kinda, but i prefer the A pillar pod, as it's easier to see while watch the road...does increase that blind spot a bit though, both have their down falls i guess...hardwire a GPS into it...
Thats a pretty cool idea too.
And like Crans I prefer the A pillar gauges myself.
If you did do the pocket it would be pretty cool to set it up as a charging station and maybe wire an Aux line to your stereo into it. Maybe have a phone/ipod holder so you can control your music from there. Id like to do something like that myself. As it is I usually plug in my HTC Vivid to the Aux, open the ashtray and prop my phone from the edge of the ashtray leaning against the cubby pocket. So moving it up a bit would make it easier to look at when changing songs.

O hahaha... I like the iPod idea but when I put stuff in my cubby it always falls out so that would be annoying.. And looking down to look at the gauges isn't a great idea.. Hmm I'd have to go with the iPod thing sounds like the best thing.. Or put a kill switch there
This is my plans so maybe it could give you an idea.
The new Google/ASUS Nexus 7 Tablet (http://www.google.com/nexus/#/7), or some other tablet because the Nexus doesn't run the homescreens in landscape, is getting fiberglassed into the place of the single din. It's not an overly difficult task, but it does take sometime for planning. I will be doing an Android OS because I have the Nexus phone with a few paid apps, such as my Torque application which runs from a Bluetooth OBD2 reader and displays all my sensor information + more on my device. There are also GPS apps and whole bunch more.
That should give you something to ponder about lol. If you got any questions, feel free to drop me a message.
