Experiment: driving like Grandma vs regular spiritied driving
Where you're driving, how easy you are on the pedal and hypermiling techniques play a big role too. I realize didn't really touch on them and probably should have.
My trip is mostly hiway. That best was pure hiway driving. I am also extremely easy on the pedal and accelerate very gently. When I start I let the engine start moving the car before I give gas. I feather the clutch to allow for this. Then I accelerate very gradually. I do shift early and focus on keeping the rpm around 2000 in the city. On the hiway the cruise control comes out and rpm kept at 3000 or under.
Then theres the hypermiling things I do like trying to never coming to a complete stop when it can be avoided. In the city I watch lights and traffic, if I can, won't come to a stop so when the light goes green I am already going and much less gas is needed to get me going faster. I'll go into neutral going down hills depending on traffic conditions. The longest distance I traveled in neutral is like 1.2km lol. Sheer luck with lights and was on a route with tons of hills. I know the areas that I can throw the car into neutral and coast while keeping up with traffic. You can coast to many stop signs or red lights once you get a feel for speed, distance, wind and road pitch.
I guess I tap my competitive nature and essentially keep trying to get better and better mileage. It's quite the righteous challenge.

If the throttle is closed and the engine is over 1200 - 1500 rpm, varies by maker, then no fuel is used. Check out fuel cut on engine over run.
So if you stayed in a gear that would keep you over 1500 rpm, as you descend with the throttle closed, you will save even more.

I'm jealous...
The most I got in one tank is probably 480km and that's me driving like a grandma:
- Upshift around 1800rpm to 2300rpm
- Cruise control @ 100km/h on the dot when on the highway
- Oil change every 3000km
- And all the other things that I read on EvoM for saving gas
I probably need a tune-up or maybe it's because I have almost 230000km on my RA?
Don't matter. I still LOOOOOVE my RA

If the goal is to save money, why change oil every 3 000km when the owner's manual states every 6 000 km for severe duty and 12 000km regular duty ?

I am no saint and I get 460 km easily off a full to the brim tank, 480 when I'm good and the one time I've tried my best I got 503 km.
As for running out of gas, one time on a road trip there was a massive head wind, I was staying under 130 and the fuel light came on quite early.
I went a further 50 km before filling up.
I filled to the brim and put 49.2 L in our alleged 50 L capacity tank.
if i'm still is gear and coat with the throttle closed, my wideband reads super lean, meaning no fuel, if i coast in neutral, it will go super lean for a few seconds, and return to i believe closed loop idle with fuel added.
Sweet, so really you stay in gear, push the clutch in and then coast? Or are you saying to just stay in gear, don't press the clutch and try to stay between 1200-1500rpm? You have to keep your foot on the gas? What about engine braking since it would do so?

Changing the oil so much is completely a waste of money, even more so if your using a full synthetic oil. As for coasting it's pretty flat in FL so it's easily doable but rolling down hill is a near impossibility being the highest natural point in Florida is 345 feet and it's 10 hours away
RPM doesn't matter, the lower, the longer you'll be able to maintain speed while coasting, but while "engine braking" there's not fuel being injected...
Ohhh okay, I already do this too. I do this for example when coming off the hiway and I know I'm going to have to stop. I only neutral cost when I have no intention of stopping like when going down a huge hill on the hiway. When I think of it, I really do it mainly with hills.
If the goal is to save gas then fine.

I think I'm going to need to tune up my engine soon. Still saving up for transmission parts and a clutch kit but I gotta tune up since my MPG is suffering.
I'm going to start with a new set of spark plugs
I'm learning a lot just by reading through a bunch of threads here in EvoM. That's what I do during my spare time

Thanks a bunch to EVERYONE
