Third break light problems.

Hey guys,

So I am installing a new spoiler but do to the fact that this one does not have the brake light and by law being required to have a third brake light, I need an alternative.

I am looking along the lines of this. The problem is that it does not ship to canada where I live. Is there alternative you can find.

I actually looked at this thread first but the links are broken. If you guys have ideas or suggestions let me know.

Also to let you know I am getting this spoiler. Let me know of what you think of the product if I should or shouldn't buy. Let me know thanks.

you can always buy a 3rd brake light from an evo. They sell on here pretty often in the for sale threads. And they plug right in, there is a plug already waiting for it under the rear deck in the trunk.

I actually installed a third brake light on my RA a month or two ago. You need the third brake light, the two fastening nuts, and the rear shelf from a regular Lancer. Mine were off an ES model. You can read my installation description.

I got my pieces from a local pick n' pull in Vancouver for less than $20CAD.

The hardest part of this install is the removal of the bolts which hold down the child restraint system because the bolts are situated by the rear windshield. There's a factory manual of our generation of Lancers floating around in this forum somewhere. It contains instructions on dissembling the rear shelf.

Pretty much exactly what jcmaz said. Although instead of buying a new rear shelf I just cut the one in my car to accomodate the light install. Basically a hole needs to be made in the middle and the hump in the back needs to be removed for the light to sit down in there flush against the window. Here is a pic where you can see the hole, the insulation is covering up the part where the hump in the back is cut out. When you have the light there its not hard to see what nees to be cut. You can almost use the underside of the light as a stencil if you want to keep from buying a new rear deck that is.
