to buy or not to buy?

OK, so I have the opertunity to buy a dodge daytonia with the shelby turbo 2 motor for about $500, but it requires me to drive 200 miles to pick it up (clutch is blowen) and tow it back plus replacing the clutch. So do I drop lets say 750 on the sweet shelby or do I drop it in my lancer and get a few upgrades. perk of the daytonia is I can also teach my fiance to drive standard in it. So what do you guys think?

the dodge sounds good...but havce you seen it?...have you had it inspected?...are you surre that the cluthc is the ONLY issue?...I ask b/c "If it seems too good to be true, it is"

...make sure you know what you're getting into with it....in the end it could be undriveable, or cost you a lot more then $750

thats quite true and before I wouls shell out the cash I would go over the car, but to be honest as long as the engine is strong and the trans is in good shape; the car should be worth that price. What i really need is a connection in philly who can check it out and tell me excatly what the cars condition is; only problem is that they may tell it is't bad and then buy it themselves. So if I ask someone I take that risk, where as if I go down to check it out I spend 4 hours of time and at least $100 (rent tow dolly and gas) to take the chance I may not want the car. Oh, decisions decisions.

Or look up a reputable inspection provider and pay them $50-100 to go do a detailed inspection of it. AAA should have a list of approved facilities in the area as one starting point.

^^^What? Pay someone up to a $100 to "inspect" a $500 car? Yeah I am sure he is going to come back with glowing reviews of that. And if you called me and told me you were sending out an inspector to check on a car for $500, I would say deal is off, but thats just me. Sorry bro but that is rediculous. Hey, its always nice to have a toy and $500 for a toy with a good turbo motor is worth the money. Get in your car and check it out. The drive wont be that bad. If you like what you see, it will be worth arranging the transport of the car home. If it isnt, all your out is some time and gas.

Don't jump all over me. I was just offering another option since it seemed he was significantly not into making the trip to check it himself.

he can shell out $100 to find out that the car is a piece of crap or he can shell out the $500 plus the trip and expense go go down aind find out himesle..

it's not rocket science.. $100 is a safe insurance bet

If it's only 200 miles just go look at it. That's only a three hour drive and could yeild a fun new toy. Once there, if the car is to you liking, start finding a tow company while you're there and follow them home. Don't put a decision like this in someone elses hands; they don't have to drive the car. ;-)

-just my opinion.
