Post Gas Mileage Thread | [MERGED]

I just filled up for the second time, and my estimated gas mileage is a hair under 20mpg... is this because it's brand new (about 500 miles on it)? Will this go up as the car "breaks in"?

what kind of driving are you doing? Alot of stop and go? I average about 23-27. 30 hwy driving if i dont have a friend in the car with me. I dont know if this is the right advice but i would call your dealer and talk to them about your problem. something just doesn't seem right here. hope this helped alittle.

I'm getting around 17-18MPG about 80%city driving, and I'm not always gunning it either. I average around 350kms from full till the empty light comes on. Thats 219miles 12.5 gallon tank=17.52mpg. I've talk to other people who are getting the same milage too, I hope it does improve though

How are you calculating your MPG? I take miles traveled and divide it by how much i fill the tank. 280miles/10.7gallons=26.16mpg. if i am wrong here please let me know.

Well I just do it by the size of the tank, your way may be a little more accurate than mine, I go distance travelled from full till empty light, so there may still be 2 gallons left in my tank.

I set the trip each time I fill up. Then, the next time I fill up it's the trip reading divided by the gallons I put in.

208.2 miles / 10.625 gallons this time.

I think part of it was that I put in the K&N filter and didn't reset the ECU. I drove over half those miles like that. Just took care of that...

you dont have to reset the ECU with a filter. It adjusts on its own. To get a proper gas mileage estimate, top off your tank. Run the car a low as you can/want and log the miles. Then refill and divide the gallons to refill with the miles you had just traveled. That is the simple math equation for that. Poco, your math will will be a little off your way. And as far as 19 MPG in your RA, that is possible if you are doing mainly city driving and you are all over your gas pedal (like you know you are). I* was all over my pedal too when I first bought my car.

I would recommend the trip meter / gallons filled but to get a real acurate reading you need to do this for 4 fill ups and take the average.

When you collect the info do this. Write down the miles travelled and the gallons filled from the pump.

Remember that every tank out there has a little bit left in her when that light comes on. Normally it's about 2 gallons but then you also have "top off" fuel you've put in there as well which can skew your average.

as an example.
219miles 12.5 gallon tank=17.52mpg
219miles 10.0 gallon tank=21.9mpg
So you can see by making sure you have acurate reading you can get better results. Good luck and keep us posted.. Last time I checked my 02 Oz was getting around 25 in city and 28 hwy.

I usually get about 25-26 miles per gallon, but on a recent long trip to New York, I got a little over 28mpg. I drive an auto and the driving was 95% highway.

Well, in my case it didn't, at least not after driving 100+ miles. The car was still acting funny after the new filter. Now, it isn't.

Just a reminder, in Canada our gallons are imperial=larger. I believe that the US gallon is about 4/5th's of a Canadian gallon. This will give us a better miles per gallon ratio which really leads me to believe that pocoRA may have a heavy foot .

I get about 24-26 MPG with mainly city driving. Sure they are interstates I am driving on, but its stop and go for the majority of my 40 mile each way commute to work each day. Anyone from Portland Oregon area knows my pain... I-5 to highway 217 to highway 26, then back again.

I haven't got to do a decent road trip yet, might be interesting to see the difference in milage.

On a side note, I installed a CAI on my GF's OZ and she actually gets BETTER milage now. I just put in a RRM CAI on my car, and I bet mine is now worse..... MUAHAHAHA!!!

I would wait a little while to see about that. It could be because you just give it a little more gas now or because your car needs to adjust to the new air intake. Most intakes will usually improve the gas mileage over time.
