SCC: "20 Grand Smackdown" Spec-V vs. Ralliart [56K Warning] [MERGED]
Most people (me included) got the (realy poor) Goodyear RSA. This tire is crappy at best...
but adds to comfort (for those of you who care more than me).
I just had Pirelli PZero Nero installed and it now kicks asses in tight corners!!! I liked it so much, I just drove 300Km just so I can enjoy the car...
Anyone looking for Goodyears RSAs with under 1200KM on them?

Good question actually... Is the RA a sports car??? I thought it was a sports-compact and it happens to be what I wanted to buy... you know a car with good performance that's also a good family car.
Um actually if you've been in a hole for the last 4 years then i'd understand but people get realistic here, sportcompacts are what sports cars are becoming known to be. Prime example Evo and STi. other examples focus SVT Celica gt-s se-r srt-4 and amazingly the RA... people get these cars now with performance in mind, theres no doubt in my mind that anyone should deny these cars from being called sports... with mods there right up there with the best factory tuned cars... 2 door 2 seat sports cars have evolved into this and if you don't think so, i don't no what to tell you other than to climb out of that hole you've been in.
look at the names ... SE-R (sports edition - RACING) RALLIART ( how can you name the car that and not assume its a sports car...) they should have renamed it if they didn't want people to put it up to performance tests but they clearly did want it to.

It's all good and true... but what we've been saying is that we shopped for cars with more things in mind than just performance. I think that what pocoRA was saying is that the RA is the best package we found to fit our needs... not a race car for 22,000$ (17,000$ in US currency I believe).
The fact that my RA performs well was one (albeight important) of many factors that influenced my decision:
1- Ample room for 2 adults, 2 children adn 2 weeks of grocery (what can I say, I don't like shopping for grocery)
2- Very nice equipment package (especially the electric package + A/C when I'm with the kids on hot summer days)
3- The smallest price for the largest amount of stuff (while staying under 25,000$CAN including taxes)
So when I read some articles that focus on performance alone, I can't really match their analisys with my own shopping process. And while I beleive some people only look at performance when they go buy a car, I thing most of us can't afford multiple cars, each with it's special purpose. I for one like the fact that the RA meets all our needs while staying affordable enough that I can still pay the mortgage... but as I say, it's my own personnal opinion here, others might not shop with the same things in mind.
I'm not playing the osteridge here, I don't bury my head in the sand and claim this car is the best race car out there. It's just the better package for me for a given price.
Then again, with my new tires, this car is getting closer to what I'd ultimately like a good sports car to feel like. And ike you said, I can always mod it a bit at a time 'cause it still has a large potential for well planned improvements...
note: the only hole I've been in (aside from another not to be metionned here) is the one I had dug out to build the house last september... thought it might be of some interest since you seem to look for "holes people"...

Anyway, I explained all that to the rep. when I first drove the car. But the dealer wouldn't keep the stock tires and sell me better ones. That way I would only have paid the difference (like I did when I bought my Integra). Instead, I was forced to order another set of tires and they would only give me a credit of 100$CAN on those... this is crappy service at best. So now I have to sell my RSAs (I'd like to at least get half the price for them, I figure 300$ would be a fair deal)...
Funny, My ralliart came with Bridgstone potenza's. Granted they are all season, they aren't too bad. Both this car, my 2002 eclipse and my 2001 Mr2 spyder all had them on them. The Mr2 being one hell of a great handling car never had a problem with the tires so maybe you guys are just a bit too picky...LOL

You know, you shouldn't take those articles too seriously... others rate the RalliArt one of their best pics. It's always a matter of who reviews it and what they expect in a car in that price range.
For instance, in this article things are reversed:
http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...12_0401_thrash
Which leads me to conclude that one must make it's own choice and not focus on any articles. These guys can help you choose by sorting out the more technical aspect of competing cars, but they cannnot choose for you. If it was the case, most people would never have consider the Sentra after reading what Motor Trend wrote... or even Car & Driver.
It's much more important to be able to make it's own mind than being able to find reviews on the net...
