LOL, this is getting very ammusing, people dont buy the Impreza just because of the STi... Majority of people who purchase a Subaru Impreza are very fond of the WRC and its roots, as well as the safety level the cars achieve, believe me i have first hand experience in this ;-)... As for the body panels denting... i can agree with the 'aluminum hood' on the performance imprezas such as the WRX model denting... what do you expect of aluminum to be super strong? it saves a lot of weight if you ask me for a performance model. The actual Impreza car is based off the WRC car btw... the details from the body panels to the suspension, engine, and what not....

What many people fail to descern is what exactly the STi is.... its not some super car as many believe it may be, its just an Impreza WRX tuned by STi... just like you have a Impreza WRX tuned by JUN, hence the reason why the WRC car is called the "Impreza WRC" not WRC STi....The Lancer is the same way... (WRC anyhow...) "Lancer WRC" not Lancer EVO WRC....

As for the Top Gear Episode regarding the LanEvo8 FQ-300 MR VS The WRX Sti WR1, it was rigged... it has come to the attention to many viewers including UK LanEvo owners who noticed that the car was 'tooo' fast to be stock.... later investigations lead to the car being tuned even more by mitsubishi as they were expecting the challenge of a "new" impreza battle by Top Gear..... Of course PR (public relations for those not in the know) from mitsubishi wanted the car to be stronger at all cost hence the extra tuning.... as the WR1 was completely stock vs a modified FQ-300....

Mitsubishi LanEvo's and the Subaru Impreza WRX's are both great cars and can hold their own, regardless what test you throw at them they will always be one step from one another, as if they were brothers at birth with different fathers...as the yin is to the yang...etc...Driving ability of both cars are very dependent on the drivers... give 2 equal skilled drivers one and the other car and youll have a very close race, as if it would be the first person to mess up who will lose....

People, magazine racing isnt going to prove anything.... why dont people just go out and test these cars and decied which is the rite one for themselves rather then talk their ish, cause i will guarantee regardless which car they choose, they would both suck unless the driver skill of that particular driver is capable to unleash the beast with both....

Not completely relevant but Mitsubishi has a lancer turbo in Japan (other than the Evolution) that I thought might be interesting for those that don't already know. It is not a 2.4 MIVEC turbo though it is a 1.8 GDI turbo with 121kW and 220Nm. It is the same body though and maybe seats and other things?

Anyway have a look here http://www.mitsubishi-motors.co.jp/LANCER/lineup.html . It is in Japanese but it is the blue lancer at the top, just click the smaller Japanese with arrows next to it. More links are at the top left, put the mouse over them and look at the bottom of your browser window to see where they take you.

But if you tweak the stock turbo you will be voiding warranty as well. That is the same as adding an aftermarket turbo.

Isumi < my friend in Japan> Has told me that the WRX is a better deal than the Evo. Although I assume He means the Japan versions. When He comes back to visit again I'm going to have him look at the US versions and tell me what he thinks. HE was also telling me that it would nbe cheaper to import a 2 year old model of the Evo from Japan then to buy a US version.. This is because in Japan you have to have your car inspected every two years, and must fix every detail that is broken. It's usallly cheaper to buy a new car than to have an inspection. Hence all the cheap parts.....

I think I'm going to look into importing an MR ... MUhahahahah!

The Evolution VIII in the Top Gear test was an FQ330 not an FQ300. If you look at the time list when they put up the new time they show you that the old (not MR) FQ300 did a 1:28.9 lap and the new MR FQ330 does a 1:26.0.

Considering the new car has an extra 30HP (aprox) and it is an MR (lighter, better suspension, etc.) I can believe that it is 3 seconds faster. Even if it isn't the old FQ300 is still faster than the WR1 by 1/2 a second.

Anyway sorry for going off topic.
