How often should I change my oil?

OK the owners manual said to change the oil every 7500 miles. that sounds like a lot of driving on the same oil. and what is the best oil to use?

I change mine every 4 thousand miles. I also use Valvoline 5w-30 NON SYTEC, just regular oil. Valvoline 5w-30 is top mechanics choice and consumer digest's number one rated oil. I used to be a mechanic and I'm an ex Honda guy and know NOT TO USE SYNTEC. Eventually it will start eating away the aluminum in you block and head.

3000 on average.

5500 at absolute most.

At 7000, the oil property for any sort of protection is basically worthless. I even heard people hit 10000 w/o 1 oil change by those didn't know oil was supposed to be changed.

There are 2 schedules in the manual, look at the other one. I change mine every 3k. To me, its worth spending the 15 bucks for oil & filter more often to have the car run for 300k....

my 2 Lincolns...

I saw the second schedule for severe conditions it said to change it @ 3750 miles. thanks for pointing that out.

Fevo7; is the 4k mi w/ 5w-30 for your evo or all cars?

Most 4 cyl...whether evo, lancer, civic, accord, 240...whatever; valvoline 5w-30 is recommended and mechanic preferred. Ask any mechanic.....you'll prob get valvoline regular 5w-30 15 times out of 20. But like lrh35 pointed out, how often you change your oil just depends on the severity you drive it. But I wouldn't go over 5K with regular driving situations or highway driving. Regular wear and tear on you motor occurs all the time, especially with stop/go driving like innercity driving. But I have felt safe, and like most mechanics will probably say, 4K....you should change the oil.
And usually, after you've had your car for so long and the car adapts to your regular driving habits and patterns......You can almost tell when it's time for another oil change.

my first oil change was at 1000; I religiously change it every 3000 miles.

I'm paranoid, but still...it's a good habit for longevity's sake. Plus, I'm on the severe maintenence schedule.

synthetic is required for Evo as far as I know, or the warranty is void.

Just go regular on the Ralliart. That's what came with it from factory...it'll run fine.

that is bull crap you spread around here

i had used syntheic in all my hondas (3 of them right now, 2 sold) from the first oil change and I put 186,000 km on my 99 accord without any issues

it won't eat your block and it won't do any damage.. stop scaring the kids

--

as far as how often to change the oil, I changed the oil in my 04 RA at 2000km then again at 4000km, now i am settling in a 4000km schedule

i think it depends on what kind of driving you do, if it's stop and go then i would change it more often, if it's highway driving i would do less

---

I use 5w50 castro synthec and it works great

---

I am starting to get tick at people who say follow the manual about everything.. it came from the factory with regular oil because it's CHEAP, they tell you to use minimum 87 octane gas because that's what the average guy is going to dump in even though 91 octane gives more performance...

the warranty says don't mod your car, but you do anyway..

I did 3 oil changes till about 3k with kendal gtx non-synthetic oil; so the car was nice and broken in and there are no metal shavings floating around (yes, breakin period is the time you engine is most likely to get damaged by metal). Now I'm going every 2.5k-3k with full synthetic mobil 1.
