So what's up with Mitsubishi???

For quite some time I have been hearing rumors about Mitsu being in some serious trouble financially, but as most people I just dissmissed it as doomsayers.Well something has kinda got me wondering. I live in the nothern Seattle area and the only two Mitsu dealers in my area just closed up shop. That's right.....gone. Making me worried. I am doing alot of research because I can finally afford a new car soon and the Ralliart is one of the cars on the list. I tell you though, I am not really liking the idea of buying a car that is built by a company with a shaky future in this country. SO tell me what is the dirt on Mitsu as a company?

Well, they are having quite a financial problem when Daimler wants to sell their mitsubishi stocks out, 33% if i recall. And yes, mitsubishi might declare bankruptcy but have no fear, they will still have their Mitsubishi Heavy Industries backing them up somewhat. So I have 100% trust in Mitsubishi's future in North America.

the Mitsubishi's in my area have sold out of the Ralliart sedan. Hopefully they'll keep the Mitsu dealerships in my area cuz they must've done something good to sell out of Ralliart sedans.

Hey dugrant153,

Which area is it you live? If its Vancouver Mitsu that your talking about I got the last 5 spd they had... and the second last Ralliart sedan.... Are you in the market for a 2005? If so see Henry at Van Mitsubishi he was great to deal with.

My ralliart has been great! Just took it to the interior of BC and finally got good gas mileage. 400kms and still had a quarter tank. For any new ralliart owners who are wondering, it has taken 2000kms to start getting decent mileage.

hey Cdnrally,
hehe... I dropped by Vancouvert Mitsu and talked to Henry a while ago (probably just after you bough your car). He's the one I talked to about stuff and he's the one who let me take out a Ralliart Sportback automatic wagon. I'll be in the market for a 2005, but possibly a 2006 depending on how things go for me. I will definitely talk to Henry He's pretty straight forward to deal with.

But yeah... I'd hate to see a Mitsubishi close down. They just opened shop in Canada 2 years ago?

What the...?! Lance_er_167, stick to the topic. Or use private messaging for these sort of posts.

Moderator, I dunno about you, but I feel this is too much.

Well, I reported him and his doings, hope the moderator will help me out there (if you want, look in the RA vs Mazda3 topic, tons of hate msg from him). Sorry for the OT.

Oh, i got some new info about the mitsu crisis. Bank of Japan want to fund Mitsubishi, so Mitsu will not go under. At least 2005 cars are coming in July, keep your heads up high and keep on trusting mitsu. Mitsu forever~

Well, the Japanese economy had been in a decade long recession or so and it's just VERY recently that they've been recovering (from what I understand). So I'm not surprised to hear that the Bank of Japan wants to fund Mitsubishi Motors Corporation.

However, Mitsubishi could still go under if they don't make more profit. Marketing is the key here in North America. And in my opinion, marketing has been really weak so far. They also have to get rid of their reputation of Mitsubishi being unreliable (DSM crankwalk, etc.).

They do need a better marketing department. Look at their Lancer Ads! Theres a mid age couple driving a yellow Lancer (OZ???) asking directions from a group of so called street racers. But if you check the threads earlier, you can see all Lancers owners are young people. So they made a BIG mistake on aiming Lancers to mid age people. Sure, its a nice family car, but its more of a sporty type. And their ad is a bit more plain that Mazda's ads.

Evos will sell good in Canada if they reinforced the bumper so they can pass Canada's crash testings. Lancers can get in Canada cuz they got a reinforcement where Evo's IC is. Therefore, its kina hard to add reinforced bumper and FMIC at the same time.

But ya, if Evo's do come to Canada, they WILL beat the sales of Subarus. But things are holding them back. Mitsu is starting to get popular in Canada, people start getting them now. Maybe Mitsu needs to change their targets... Mid age people wont look for a mitsu, they would want something like a mercedes or bmw, perhaps porsche if they can. Mitsu is kina for the young ones. Thats my opinion...

This capital infusion of $4.29 billion (450 billion yen) also demonstrates the Mitsubishi companies' belief and confidence in the future of the brand."

In his press statement in Tokyo today , Mr. Okazaki once again reiterated MMC's commitment to the North American market and underscored its importance to the company's global strategy. Despite the recent problems we have faced in the U.S. , North Amerca remains a top priority for us, " he said, "We are fully committed to getting our North American operations back on track to pave way for the future growth here.

I agree with you 100 percent. I bought my RA in January prior to seeing any add for them on tv. It's yellow and we're both over 50.

You can enjoy a RA at any age and you can be miserable with an Evo at 20, it's just a matter of whether your glass is half full or half empty.

Regards
