Isn't our stock shifter short enough? I used to own a Miata... which has one of the shortest out there. This car is really close to that one, not exact, but damn close. All the money and work may not be worth the fraction of a an inch you gain.

Your right .. the Ralliart has the best shifter I've ever used, but it definetly can't hurt to have an even shorter throw!!

Wrecked,
No disrespect and I agree that the stock shifter is great but the B&M shortens the through 1 inch not a fraction.

I feel that too. its the syncros. Just dont force it or you might have to take it in for service. Some others have already. usually a quick fix and no charge, but a pain in the ***.

This is a heads up to guys thinking of putting a short shifter into your Ralliart, today I picked up the B&M ss and was installing it today when I discovered that you cant get the freaking upper center pivot socket off of the stock shifter without cutting it in half, so you have to go and get a 18 dollar part from Mitsubishi to be able to use the B&M. And of course mitsu is closed on sundays so I'm driving around with my center console removed until I can get this piece and finish the install.

I thought that you had a choice if you went with 15% shorter the stock would work but if you went with 45% shorter then you had to cut it in half.

This is the same BM that goes in the evo right?

I dont have that option with this shifter, I got the B&M #45100. But still, you need the upper center pivot socket, which is just a piece of plastic with 2 little ball bearings in it, but it's stuck on the stock shifter because it has a piece of metal welded onto the top of the shifter to hold the shifter boot up. I'll take a picture tomorrow if I remember.

I'm going to join in on the confusion, BM doesn't seem to have a short shifter designed for the RA all I see listed is the EVO and 02-03 lancers. I'm not saying it doesn't fit, but the instructions may not be all that much of a help, things are different between all these models. So it's hard to say what is going to fit what to cut what parts we don't have? What we need is a RA owner with BM to do a whole DIY guide on this shifter.

I will post up a DIY B&M thing when I get the part I need, and all the confusion will be cleared up.

Yes the B&M shifter I got wasnt from RRM I dont know if they use the same one or not, they probably do. And yes it's for the evo 96-2003 but it's a perfect match, a few people have installed it already.

On the instructions it lists tools needed, and then just below that there is a thing that says "Additional Parts: *EVO VIII ONLY!*, Available at your local Mitsubishi Dealer for approx $18. Otherwise, you will need to cut your stock shifter in two pieces to get this part off of the stock shifter" then it lists the part as "Gearshift lever retainer, P/N: MR246296".

Now I didnt clue in that the RA shifter is exactly the same as the EVO VIII shifter, I didnt realise it till I had the stock shifter out and couldnt take the freaking upper central pivot socket off of the shifter, and if I cant take it off then I can put on the new shifter because I need the socket for that.

So anyways, the part is on order and I will have it wednesday or thursday, i will finish installing and post up some pics.

Mike
