Hesitation 5 Seconds After Startup

I just got my Ralliart 5 speed 4 days ago, and everytime I start it when it's cold, it gets this hesitation 5 or so seconds after starting. It's not a showstopper, but I am just concerned it may turn out to be something big later on. It does it for about 3-5 secs.

Anyone noticed this same behavior?

I get high RPM's for a few seconds after I start, usually up to 60 seconds. I let the car calm itself down before I drive. If I can I wait 5-10 minutes before driving period. Well, the first start of the day.

Waiting 5-10 min. is very unnecessary. The rule of thumb is 30 sec to 1 min after cold start up. A car idling is the worse state for an engine... namely emissions and fuel mileage wise. The 30 sec to 1 min rule is just to let the oil get moving around. Driving a cold engine does not hurt it. I wouldn't stomp on it at the first light you hit though..... .

Ok guys I don't think you answered my question at all. Do your cars hesitate for a few seconds (of course when you don't step on the gas)?

After a cold start up my motor kinda stutters a bit, the revs drop from 1100 to about 900 then go back up to 1100 again, I was told it could be a misfire problem, but this only seems to happen when it's just been started cold.

I think its an emissions thing. I am not posative, but I think it has to do with the cat warming up. I noticed the same thing on my car. It idles kind of rough for 5 to 10 seconds, then smoothes out.

I think wrecked hit the nail on the head.

Its an emissions system adjusting or bypassing something.

If that's the case it's not doing it well. I've had a 97 Eclipse RS, 99 GSX, a 97 VR4, and I have a 99 VR4. None of these ever did this kind of thing. I think the RPM drop is happening too soon.

Honestly, I just pulled that answer out of my butt. I really don't know, just a guess. Your best bet would be to take it to the dealership and have it checked out.

Mine does it - it does it more since the CAI - but I think that's normal.

Mine does it too. I take it as normal. I use it a guide line. Once it does it, I pull it out of the garage, and go.

Now that's another way of dealing with it and making it useful --- lol. Anyway, somehow I am still convinced it is doing it too soon, and we may get a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) on this in the future.

For the most part, it is harmless. Let's just wait for winter.

Hey, Noypi rin?

Anyway, nobody said they had MIVEC. The point simply is the RPM drop is happening too soon or too abrupt that it causes the stuttering. Maybe it is something that can be set on the ECU by the dealers.

Happens to mine too, completely normal, pretty sure it's just the vehicle hitting it's first closed cycle.
