Question S&S Audio Hook Up?

I might sound like a retard because i dont have my car yet i just got it order in from the dealer so dont flame me.

I am getting the S&S package for my ralliart and i want to get some new subs for it for better sound but i dont know how the stock sound system is hooked up. Can some one describe or draw like a diagram of how the stock sound system is hooked up? Is there only one amp in the sound system or more? Can i hook up all my speakers to the stock amp? And is it enough watts? Do i have to get a different amp if i am getting a new deck?

Matt

As far as the S&S sub goes, there's only 2 wires in the connector for it, so it doesn't have its own internal amp. My guess (I haven't dug into it yet, I'm happy with the Infinity system for now) is that all the speakers are run from one amp.

The stock S&S amp is 315 watts, but I don't know how many watts/channel for the interior speakers, and how many watts just for the sub.

all the speakers in the S&S are driven by the amp that sits underneath the passenger seat. Also, 315 watts is not the RMS figure, it's probably closer to peak (this hasn't been confirmed, though). Even with that being said, someone tried to drive the stock sub with a different amp (like 100 watts) and ended up blowing it. So, a different amp probably isn't the solution.

The cool thing about the Sun/Sound is that the stock speakers/amp really don't have much distortion. What you can do to keep them and add new subs is get a new head unit with a subwoofer output (or rear non-fading outs, whatever you like), and then get the MITSRCVR adaptor cable from soundgate. It will run the front and rear outputs from your new deck to the stock amp, leaving the subwoofer output open for use. A bonus on this way is you can even keep the stock sub if you like

check the cable out at http://www.soundgate.com/products/factory/mit.htm

You could also probably get away with hooking the two wires going into the stock sub into the speaker-level inputs on another amp and using the second amp to power subs; if you're not interested in replacing the stock HU. I doubt the stock sub is running off of more than 30-40w RMS, and the crossover is probably set fairly high due to it being a small sub (maybe around 500hz?).

There should be a list of dealers on Soundgate's page somewhere. I have seen it online for pretty cheap, though. Should run you like 30 bucks on most online vendors. I believe that the sub is connected to the amplifier, because there would be a heatsink somewhere on the sub if it had its own internal amp.

not sure about Canada, but most places should be able to order you one.

Yeah, it will replace everything that has to do with driving the speakers. Instead of running those thru the harness, it'll be run thru the front/rear preouts of your deck. Since the sub is included on the amp, it doesn't have to be run through the sub-out on the new deck.

possibly, but that's very well a peak rating.

I know Mitsu touts their S/S package at 315W, but I'd love to see the actual (RMS) specs of everything.

IF you want to keep your factory amp and add a deck unit you need to, get the metra kit, its better then the soungate, and comes with factory plug. This will also allow you to have a sub and amp combo. The speakers in the infiniti sounds system are 4 ohms. Also the infiniti amp is under the driver seat.
