I Need Help Finding Headers!!
from what i have learned...
there are very minimal gains to be had with a header on the RA...have you even tried to take your heat shield off? if you have...you will see a header...very nicely formed...reason is RA's only have one cat and thats part of of the mid pipe...your better off trying to get someone to make you an intake maifold...this is where the most restriction is...

good points, guys. I agree that the stock header is pretty good. There is room for improvement and tweaking. IE: using diff pipe lengths will shift torque up or down the RPM scale. Better porting would also help add some HP. Plus, a nice SS header looks a hell of alot better! anyway, big update coming in next post.
Ok, so everything is calming down after hurriane frances. Myself and billet got beat up pretty bad. Marco just got power back at his shop yesterday and I made a stop by today.
So here is the story:
BilletDesign has done some nice Evo work, but no RA stuff. Tis the story of a RA owner's life. Anyway, the dev costs for having a custom hearder done are usually over $1k. After that, its about $350 in parts/labor to reproduce. So if say 6 of us wanted to do a group buy, we are still talking nearly $500 each. THAT SUX!
BUT WAIT! While in Cali a few weeks ago, Marco was discussing designing an RA header for another well-known company who would mass-produce his design in China. He would have to pay for the dev work out of pocket, but would have exclusive distrib rights for the first few months after its done. This is how the process works:
-Marco fabs the header and tests. This cost comes out of his pocket.
-Prototype is sent to the other guys, who send it to China and setup the mass production.
-After about 45 days, the first batch is done and they keep rolling off the assembly line!
-Machine welded, polished, ported and best of all: CHEAP!
So, I voleuteered my car to help test fit if he decides to go through with the deal if needed. The lack of a test car was what was holdig him back before. I dont see any reason why not to do this other than his initial upfront costs. To help this, he asked that I get a list of RA owners who would be willing to purchase a new header from him as soon as it comes out. I have a small list of people who responded before, but I will start a new poll thread to get more info.
As a bonus, while I was showing Marco the car, he also pointed out that the downpipe seemed rather restrictive as RRM already took notice of. He would also like to fab a new downpipe, that DOENST elim the CAT. In otherwords, it will be street legal. Intake manifold is also very possible down the road, if demand for RA parts is high enough.
