Angry motor mounts

lately when i shift out of first or second under moderate power i have a thump in the car. It feels like i have a shot motor mount or 2 but in my opinion ive only raced it once and shouldnt have a problem. could it be something with the clutch or transmission?

Do you have a CAI kit in the car?

If so, it may be that slapping the frame rail.

Make sure when you shift you MASH the clutch pedal to the floor. Seriously, I had that too, but it went away with HARD clutch work.

azure is right. you really have to disengage hard when the rpm's are up in those low gears. but can anyone explain what causes this? It happened before and after my CAI.

Down pipe is illegal on the streets and I heard from my parts guy that the ECU will void the warrenty.

Last time I looked at a pressure plate while changing a clutch, it had what looked like weights on it, that would add clamping force when spun at high rpms. Making a 2100lb pressure plate feel more like a 2600 would.

I've got a pressure plate from my Talon sitting out in the shed. I'll go see if the weights are there, and post a pic of them tomorrow if they are.

I get the "THUMP" when passing on the highway. going from 4th to 3rd to pass a car causes this for me when I engage quickly....I do beleive that it is the motor hitting the end of the motor mounts. they are not broken, they are just very soft. I'm sure anyone who pushes their car can attest to this. only way to fix it is to get the RRM motor mounts...

lrh- DOWN pipe or TEST pipe (cat replacement pipe) ? I can't see how a down pipe (piece between the headers and catalytic converter- very small openings, lots of crimps) would be illegal- unless that's where Mitsu put the catalytic converter for the RA's (and they didn't do that for any other model)

As for the test pipe, I drove with mine for about a year, thought I was cool. Put the catayltic converter back in and noticed an increase in low end power and fuel economy. Plus the car growls like never before (replaced the tinny sound with what sounds like a real motor! ) I can't really say I lost any top end, most folks will say 1-2 HP gained by a test pipe on a stock motor with intake and headers. Just a little food for thought

I'm pretty sure RRM's downpipe eliminates the center cat.

The downpipe on the RA has the catalytic integrated into it. This sucks!

Well, does it have the cat integrated, or does the RRM header just require that you remove the cat? Not having an RA I can't just go take a look . If the cat's NOT a part of the stock DP, I'd start talking to RRM and see if they can't (or more likely won't) fab DPs without the cat delete.... again, that would only be an option of Mitsu made the stock DP separate from the stock headers...

the whole point of this down pipe is that it eliminates the cat (the most restricive part of the exhaust). There is a pic on the RRM web site of a cross section of the cat to show just how restrictive it is.

post that link...I just looked for it without luck. So would a 2.5" cat-back exhaust with a single resonator and a canister style open muffler be too loud when in conjunction with the downpipe? My girl doesn't want her car to sound like a ricer.
