Maximum constant rpm

I'm just wondering what the healthy maximum constant rpm is for our car. At highway speeds i'm at 3500 rpm all the time, but i'm not sure if that is healthy. I know that engines can be built to sustain high rpms (nascar engines are made to run 8000 rpms all day), but was our engine built for that kind of punishment; and if so what is the highest rpm I should sustain. Anyone got any ideas. I know a few people have already torn apart one of these engines maybe someone knows what they can take. Personally if it's not built for a constant 4000 rpm load, then it wasn't designed right.

I set my cruize control at 3400 just to keep it out of the upper MIVEC. It really does help with gas milage.

As for the engine, I wouldn't worry about it. Its under warantee to 100,000.

True about the warrantee, but I would perfer to not have to bring it in at all, besides it would be real cool if it was built for a 4000 rpm constant load, not many engines are.

I normally drive around 3500-4000 and when I'm on the hwy goin' to my girlfriends place I'll have cruise set at about 4000-4200 and thats for the better part of an hour. Don't worry about constant engine load unless your keeping your RPM's between 6-7 all the time. Trust me....these engines are tanks!

As long as you treat them good (regular oil change is the biggest) then your fine.

Yeah, don't worry about it at all. If you had 100,000 miles or more on the engine, maybe be slightely more careful. But the engine will take A LOT of crap. Running a constant 3500rpm is better than city driving. That's about where my auto RA is at at highway speeds (110-120kph).

ive noticed that as well... i usually set the cruise around 70-72 mph... or at about 3400ish before the valve timing changes... ive noticed about a 2-4 mpg difference in doing this instead of cruising at around 80

To hell with MPG. I cruise at around 80-85 and the engine seems quite happy with that.
