ok, so i tried teaching my fiance how to drive a stick shift tonight. she finally got the hang of starting and stopping and shifting into 2nd. when she tried to go in reverse all she did was stall. she must have done that 6 or 7 times. after the last time my check engine light came on. anyone know what might cause this? does it have anything to with stalling that many times?

I'm no expert, but when I put 1 and 1 together I'd say so! I can't believe you let someone (fiance or no) learn to drive stick on a nice new car

Hopefully someone here can help ya out...if not then you may have to get your Ralliart towed to a dealer.

 

It could have to do with the stalling. Just take it to autozone and get them to read the code(s). Probably something to do with the stalling.

I can't belive how complicated people make driving a stick for themselves. "Give gas, let clutch out slowly, push clutch in before changing gears."

I'm not baggin on the wife, I've just seen too many people with the mindset that it can't be done.

 

could also just take the battery terminal off. the ECL will go away. if it doesnt come back, problem solved! else, you have some work to do

 

The battery trick doesn't work with 1996 and newer cars. The codes are stored in the memory and removing the battery won't erase them.

 

it's all good now. after i cranked the car for the 4th time today, it went off. everyone i talked to said not to worry then, so i'm not. thanks for the replys.

 

Yeah, if it went off on its own, don't worry about. Whatever test failed before (and caused the light to go on) must have passed so the light went out. If it happens again, the light will just turn on again
