Exclamation Well, now im a ralli-art owner...

Got my a brand new o4 black ralli-art today at santa monica mitsu, thanks to rob for the outlook and mike for the deal. I Really like this car and is a biiiiiig step up from my o2 lancer es. Just one thing, this is my first stick car and my es was an auto, i bogged, chirped tires all tonight, and it made me mad. This sucks. Getting out of first is the hardest yet. Everybody today has been giving me pointer and lesson but i still can grasp it. Makes me mad when the car rolls or when she over revs. About an hour ago, i downshifted to 3rd and she over rev to the 8k limit, i immediatly pushed in the cluth scared as ish. Than i got stuck on my driveway and burnt the clutch, i had to ask a neighboor to help get it up the driveway because I couldnt.

This is gonna be one hell of a tuff lesson, im thinking maybe i should of got a auto

well, they gave me something like 5k for it, it was a used ES, with 53k miles and had the evoVII spoiler and grill and tails and axel back exhaust and AEM sri new rims and tires, debadge es and the "italaize lancer" logo put on. They kept everything cept' the tails (chrome depo evoIII), so yeah i owed something like 25oo more on the car so they just dumped into the ralli-art. OTD everything total came to 17.3k. Also yes, they are selling them for 12,595 (if college grad), 13,095 if ur still in college (like me). Also I got the last black one. They have white and thunder gray left i believe and that's it. Sooooo hurry before its too late. Can't beat a ralli-art for 13k. Ask for ROB or MIKE.

As much as I wanted to leave mitsubishi for nissan, i wasnt really feeling the interior and exterior of the specV, just wasnt appealing. The ralli-art (besides the trunk and tails) was just to nice, inside and out. Plus, all you dudes and SCLC guys are cool as hell, couldnt leave u guys... haha.

P.S. Im still getting A Nissan GTR... peep sig.

First off - Autos' suck...

2nd - "feather" the clutch when you're getting out of first until you get the timing down (bascially you'll be rolling out the clutch as you give the car gas - you will give more gas and let out less clutch at first - ).

YOu'll be double clutching before you know it

13K for a brand new Ralliart?

HELL for that price I would trade in my Lancer. I Agree with PGmike, a year earlier and I would have been driving one too.

On the clutch thing starting off I think the key word is "ease" the clutch out as you give the car some revs. Once it starts to roll forward you can let it right out and give it some gas. I taught my girlfriend when my car was 2 weeks old. I haven't let her drive it but once since so that reminds me I need to give her some more lessons.

Great car choice!!!

You will get a hang of it! Just don't down shift when the gear that you are going into is higher than the redline!

On this car, you gotta mash the clutch to the floor, especially on the 1-2 shift, otherwise you get that feeling of the stick being forced back against your hand.

Other than that, let the clutch out slowly with a bit of gas, master the slow starts, then learn to burn it!

You really dont have to give the car any throttle to get her to roll, practice in a parking lot by letting the car idle and VERY slowly letting the clutch out. This way you learn where the clutch engages on its way out, and its a good leason to keep you from letting the clutch out too quickly and bogging.
After you have the car idling around in a circle, stop. Start to let the clutch out just as before but this time when it begins to engage give it a little gas and let the clutch out a little quicker. Just keep practicing and your shifter will become like a 4th arm (if you're a dude you already have a 3rd arm.)

On hills if you're worried about rolling back into traffic or a street, learn to use your emergency brake. Pull up on it so you know the car isn't rolling back and preload your front wheels. Dont sit and burn the clutch though, wait until its time to go...people HAVE to wait and if you're in your driveway you are only waiting on yourself.

On 2+ shifts I've found that the smoothist way to shift is fast. The engine losses revs quick and if you shift to slow the clutch will have to rev the engine up to the matching higher RPM.

So a totally step by step is.

Regular HIGH mpg driving in a RA
1st gear from stop -
feather the clutch so that the tachometer (RPM gauge) is between 1500 and 2000.
Once the car starts to move forward a little let off the clutch swiftly. Not supper fast however not to slow to ride the clutch.

all other up shifts (means going from say 1st to 2nd , 2nd to 3rd, etc)
1. Take foot off gas
2. Press clutch to the floor 100%.
3. Shift quickly
4. Let clutch up quickly
5. Press gas
You want to do this procedure rather quickly. Takes some time to get used to however it happens smoothly when you do it fast with very little to no jerking.
For best gas millage you should switch to 2nd at 15mph, 3rd at 25mph, 4th at 35mph, and 5th at 45mph. This keeps the RPMs below 3500 so that Mivec doesn't switch from efficiency mode to power mode.

Down shift
1. Let foot off gas
2. Push clutch in 100% to floor
3. Put in lower gear (if going less than 20 2nd gear and if going between 30-40mph 3rd gear and anything above 40mph to 4th gear)
4. Let foot off clutch slowely to allow the RPMs to adjust to the lower gear

This is hard core conservative shifting. I'd say get the regular stuff down before you start having fun and pumping up the RPMs. However it's always fun to take off from a stop sign every once in a while and feel the pull after the engine gets to 3500. HEHEHE

All you do to get a smooth shift is to give it a little gas (note, a little) as you let the clutch out after shifting. Shifting fast does the same thing, but many people (specifically beginners) can't shift fast enough.

WOW

everytime I get in this car it puts a on my face. Today my mom hade me practice around the block (actually around the police station and some other office buildings) and it helped alot, took 2hours and it made a world of difference. Compared to sunday when i bogged about 15-20x, today only 3 and tonight 0. Im really pleased I got a stick now, and im getting out of 1st, and into 2nd easily. I know i still need more practice to get it down to a T. Thou, im happy in only 2day's the progress I got, and ooooh man does she pull, i chirped the tires today (on accident ) and i was like dam (yes I know she's not super fast, but its good for me).

Congrats bro...You got the stick down! Good luck...The RA shifter is easy to get used to, so its all downhill from now. Just learn to speed shift and you'll be fine. ^_^ peace-
