motor mount hack job?
motor mount hack job?
Has anyone tried to stiffen up the motor mounts /wout replacing them? I know some people /w OZ's that filled the mounts with a urithane-based glue to dampen the shock caused during acceleration. This helps keep the weight on the front wheels, and thus give better traction and faster launches. Are our mounts similar to the OZ/ES? Its dark, or i would just go look myself. Anyone know if you can get the mounts out (one at a time) without jacking or lifting the engine?
well, doesnt seem to be much interest in this, but I did found this article by ROCK. its for the OZ's and its pretty old, but should still apply to us:

I found some 3m windo-weld today for like $2.50, so once I get a chance to get to the mounts, I'll give it a shot.

just seems wrong, figuring he is SELLING filled motor mounts. but he wants over $200 for them. For whats its worth with my nearly-stock car, this is a better solution for now, until im well over 200 whp.

3M Windo-Weld was a popular solution for filling the motor mounts on a DSM. I did mine, because the rubber had fallen apart from age. I would do the same with my RA.
You can probably do them one at a time, if you support the engine with a jack and a piece of wood. Only problem is, you have to let the stuff cure for a while (I let it go for a whole day) before putting them back in and putting weight on them.
You could probably get a new set, fill 'em, swap 'em out with your originals, fill the originals, and sell those for what you paid for the new set.

The front mount for the standard Lancer and Ralli Art are pretty much the same. They're a slightly different shell shape (one is two pieces welded together, the other is one stamped piece), but they both bolt up exactly the same. Any front mount made for the std. Lancer 2.0 will also fit the 2.4. The rear mount is exactly the same from one to the other.
At autozone, the window weld cost me over 7 bucks a tube.
You do need to cure them. Luckily for me, when my DSM was down, I was able to cure them for a week. It's pretty solid, consider the t-belt engine mount was split in two from age and stress.

Curing them means just letting them sit and dry right? Do we need to put it in the oven ?
Also, the mounts on the RA are different than those on the ES/LS/OZ right? I ask because http://www.deyemeracing.com/products.asp...
EDIT: nm, I'm a retard:
