Tire Operating Temps

So I've been on the fence lately about whether or not to swap back to my summer tires. The weather in Chicago has been so bipolar idk what to think of it. Anyway, around what temperature would you guys say is a good time to swap back from all-seasons to summer wheels? I know when it gets colder the summers arent very flexible so their grip isnt up to par as to what it should be.

I'd say early April. Right now is still officially winter, and like you say the weather patterns are unpredictable. I'm keeping the snow tires on 'til then.

Generally 40F for UHP "summer" tires.

How hard are you driving your ralliart that its that big of a deal to you?

I have never swapped tires in my evo... Been in chicago snow and el paso desert... Just dont get into the throttle as hard when you know its to cold.

I'm from kankakee btw, i miss snow...

what kind of tires do you use? any performance summer tire would be garbage in cold or snow, and any all-season would be garbage in all seasons, ironically...

I like to drive it pretty hard in the winding back roads and the all seasons just aren't holding as much as I would like.

Using less throttle is easy, but using less brake isn't always an option. In an emergency situation, using less brake because you put summers on too soon can equal a crash.

This. All-season = no-seasons.

I'll be swapping back to summer rubber around early April. Winter tires are mandatory here until march 15th anyway so couldn't change before today even if I wanted to. We're getting a couple inches of snow today so I wouldn't want to be on summers anyway.

Right now I'm sticking to the all-seasons but just wanted an idea of what temp to look for before I swap them over. The weather here has been like 40+ one day and then 20 the next or sunny one day and then we have a blizzard the following. So when it decides to stabilize I just wanted to know what temp range to look for before I swap.
