Lancer Ralliart or G8 GT

This long wait for the Lancer Ralliart has really sparked my interest in the Pontiac G8 GT which ive seen in my area for MSRP.

I may take a serious look at this car, interior and exterior seem very nice and it has plenty of power(a low 5 second 0-60)

I still like the Lancer especially for the technical features, but the G8 seems more like a car i could keep for a long time.

G8 GT runs at 29,995 MSRP

Lancer Ralliart is probably 25-26k

Fully loaded and a Lancer Ralliart is similar to a G8

The G8 cost probably 3-4k more than a base Ralliart but it has a V8 engine

The G8 (V6 version) gets about the same mileage as the Evo X MR -- good luck with the V8 in the G8 GT, which is almost guaranteed to be much worse.

Obviously no comparison to the Ralliart -- it's an American car, with a V8, its base price is about $5k higher, its rear-wheel drive, and it's apparently only available with an old-fashioned automatic transmission. I don't mean to say the G8 GT is definitely worse -- it's just apples and oranges -- personally I can't see how two such different cars could be your only two choices.

I had an 04 GTO (Holden Monaro in Australia) before I bought the Evo X. The new G8 is based on the Holden Commodore, which was a similar chassis to the Monaro. Basically the G8 will be a similar chassis to the GTO, but with several upgrades in front / rear suspension, and a different engine (I think it's the L98 instead of LS1 / LS2). It will be available with a six speed as that was planned to be released after the automatic. Also, the GTOs were near 3700 lbs and the G8's are understood to be heavier, so near 4000 lbs is likely for a G8 GT.

My GTO got about 27-28 mpg on the highway in sixth @ 75-ish mph. Ran a 13.2 @ 106 mph with only a K&N air filter at Moroso in Florida. It drove great but doesn't handle anywhere near the Evo X. It was comfortable on long trips, quiet inside, pretty well laid out. I suspect the new Holden Commodores, which is the car the G8 GT is really buit from in Australia, will be better than the old model.

If you don't want to spend the money on the new one, go find a use 04-06 GTO. They are dirt cheap, you can probably pick up a 2006 GTO for $20k. An 04 GTO will bring around $14k. I sold mine for $15k about a year ago, the market sucks for them on resale, but they are really a prett decent car.

I am in a pontiac fanatic family, and everyone wants a G8... Its nice but its not american, its australian, and nothing personal to anyone, the GTO was a piece, it looked like a fat cobalt, the rear tires were limited in width, and the car was just a failure... G8 is just a new name for the Grand prix, its just RWD now.... Get the mitsu...

you can get one under MSRP becuase V8 sales are down
more power ful than the lancer (stock)
roomy interior and RWD , massive tq
A car that is fast and is a great daily driver

Cons:
Gas would bad, 14-15 city , 24-25 highway , its a V8

dont get a holden!

you should make a list of what you want and not a new thread each time a car comes to mind and weigh up the pros and cons and what you really _need_ and see what other benefits come with the car

my list included:
09 RA
used EVO's
mazda 3 MPS
mazda 6 MPS
used GTR
used ford XR6 turbo

etc

my buddy has a g-8. Nice car, but HUGE. It hides its size well, but it is still a very large car. It has a very comfortable interior with lots of space for long road trips. the stereo isn't so great, it has a HUGE lcd screen for basically just playing cd's which is kind of stupid, but the car is quite nice. I suspect that the RA and g-8 will see similar mileage if you take into account how addictive boost is. FWIW (and take this with a grain of salt) my buddy says that driving from Las Vegas to Salt Lake City, he saw 21 MPG @ 105mph most of the way there. This is pretty great mileage for that sized engine IMO...if its true.

Out of all the cars on your list, I would probably consider the RA before any of them just due to the price point, AWD, potential for opening up more power down the road cheaply, and style.

Good luck with your choice.

Man, you're all over the place on your choices and need to narrow it down. Three important criteria can cut that list down to size: (1) heavy/roomy vs. light/good-handling, (2) 2-door vs. 4-door and (3) fuel efficiency vs. power-to-weight. Most people are either of one mind or the other on these issues. Personally, I'm not gonna drive a 4000 lbs car again until I'm really old and maybe not even then. I also have to have a 4-doors since I have kids, so no 2-doors for awhile either. I don't care that much about mileage so long as it's in the 20 mpg ballpark and I'm now addicted to high power-to-weight ratios, so most N/A cars are knocked out, too, since they will either be too heavy or too pricey for me if their power-to-weight is good.

Happy Hunting! It's fun being in the market for a new car.

yeah ok they're not that bad, but every man and his dog has one and i like to be different.

and i also like to know (when i get my evo) that i can beat most V8's on the road but get the same or better fuel consumption than a v6
