If you plan on racing the car at all, you don't want the sunroof.

Regardless of that, I guess I am used to a northern climate. Too cold to use most of the time, when the weather is good, I am using the AIR. Maybe the Cali boys have more use for them.

I wish my car didn't have a sunroof. It's rarely used and when it is, it's just annoying (my drunk friends like to put their heads through it).

Hell I live in sunny california and I don't even like sunroofs. Just more weight and less head room. It's nice to use once in a while but overall not worth it.

I love my moonroof. I use it everyday. It's the size of a Smart car...literally. The cabin height of the Lancer is already tall, so I don't see the moonroof hampering all that much space.

...as for racing, the same has been said of the SST. I've tracked nearly everyone of my cars, and they've all had moon/sunroofs, even targa tops. I guess if it's not that important to people, they wouldn't car either way. I don't need a crappy NAV system, so for me, I don't care to spend $30K just to get a moonroof. *shrug*

You'd be surprised at how badly a moonroof (or sunroof) can affect cabin space. At a recent track event, the instructor had a hell of a time going from a friend's STI to my car simply because of the sunroof.

 Power glass sunroof with sunshade
 Auto rain-sensing wipers
 Auto on/off headlamp control
That had been my understanding as well, but everything i've seen lately hasn't mentioned the sunroof at all. We'll see, I suppose. I'm in the air on whether I really want it or not, but leaning towards yes, partially because I want the auto on/off headlights (my car now has 'em...very nice).

Nice...but necessary?!!!!! How much effort is it to turn a knob? Very low on my want, wish, need list. Just one more item to go bad.

Not at all necessary, but definitely very useful. I haven't had to worry about leaving my lights on in a parking lot for almost 3 years now.

In YOUR Impreza, yes I do know. In my Forester there was ample room above mine and my passenger's helmets for our last track day, and we are both 6 feet tall. The Lancer has way more headroom than the GD Impreza. I sat in a GTS and there is as much, if not more, headroom than the Forester so a+b=c.

And like I said. If tracking is so important versus daily driving (something I will be doing 99% of the time), the RA isn't the proper car ANYWAY...the GSR would be the way to go there...

The sun roof in the lancers doesn't make a big difference. The roof in all the lancers is high already, high enough to add a roll cage and still have room for your head. Lets not use the WRX as a measurment for a Ralliart, they are completely different companies. I'm 6'1" and I feel like the Evo X and older lancers have plenty of head room. Every one of my Lancers has had a sun roof except one (my gf's OZ Rally), and they all have been plenty roomy for me.

I love my sunroof in my GTS, I use it everyday coming home from work, so if you want a sun or moon roof but don't want to get a loaded R/A

What do you guys think of after market one's?

I actually have an aftermarket one on my evo. I had sunroofs in both my Ralliart and lancer. I had nothing but problems with them. Screws fell out of the engine, the track was missing, the rubber was sticking to the roof so you had to pop it up first to move it back.

At this point I prefer the after market sun roof. I haven't had any issues with it, it has memory, the controller is easier to work. Just push a button and let it work. The sunroof is also bigger.
