2010 Ralliart Upgrade?
2010 Ralliart Upgrade?
Do you guys think that, due to the 2009 WRX getting an upgrade, that the 2010 Lancer Ralliart will also see similar upgrades?
I'm actually quite interested in purchasing a ralliart, but I don't wanna get jibbed by buying a vehicle that'll be outdated in 1 year...
Subaru was willing to throw away its 2008 WRX and call it a GT, you think something similar will happen to the 2009 Ralliart?
Or is it possible that there will be an upgrade kit released by mitsubishi etc etc?
Just a bit lost guys.... please don't recommend i purchase the 2009 WRX, it looks awful.

It won't be outdated from 1 year to the next? Is 25-30hp really "outdating" it? No. Mitsubishi isn't going to pour a ton of R&D into the very next year just because the WRX bumped up a little, they may add a few more horse but so what. Once you get up into these ranges, it gets difficult to feel 30hp... and why can't you add it yourself?
Personally, I'm still considering a Ralliart by trading in my Evo. But if I do i'm waiting for the 2010 model regardless just so the bugs are worked out and I know how this transmission holds together.

30 more horsepower is lot. You will notice a considerable amount more of the feeling of getting snapped back under hard acceleration. 30hp is about 3 tenths off the quarter mile. That amount of increase in horsepower can possibly lower the 0-60 time down by the same amount. And if your tracking your car, 30 horsepower and 30 more torque will knock seconds off your lap. Over the course of a track day a Ralliart with the extra 30hp and torque will be laps ahead of a Ra that does not have the extra power.
It's likely that Mitsu won't increase output this early. You can always just get tune for a few hundred dollars or so to get 30hp/torque more.
Oh yeah, bigger numbers = higher sales.

anything is possible, but its VERY unlikely they will do any sort of upgrade kit. Cars are always updated and I have yet to see a Kit of any sorts that updates an older car to match the new. Thats the nature of buying anything... there will always be the newer model that has slight or major changes. Its also a first year-first run car...so be ready for glitches, problems, fitment issues, and quality, or at least don't be shocked if something arises. As for HP, the ralliart has a bit more already than the current WRX so its unlikely they will go for even more as they would be too close to the EVO hp range.

A modest 10-20 hp gain is possible but from initial tests the Ralliart already has less lag and better midrange power (doe to torque coming on sooner) than an EVO X so the only way the Ralliart gets an increase is when the EVO does. I do expect the EVO X to get in increase in the next couple of years though.

Just as is the case with '08 WRX owners, the new model has upgrades anyone could do to their '08s, and most already have. So, really, those with stage II '08s are already driving around in '09s...
...The same can be said for the Ralliart. The trick is to not pay the outstanding prices Mitsu dealers will charge. The only thing I worry about is Mitsu putting the upgrade pack as standard on the '10 and charging considerably less than the '09 with the pack added. HID's and a moonroof SHOULD have been offered as standard kit on the '09 Ralliart to justify slotting it in pricewise so close to the GSR.
Ralliart@$27,500 with HID and moonroof should strip the *better* performing '09 WRX of sales the WRX gained by making a better performer. @ $30K with the package offered now, the Ralliart FEELS overpriced and underspec'd in comparison, especially when the GSR is not that far away in price. IMO...

i'm not a racer or anything, the reason i don't want to mod my car is because, well put frankly, i don't wanna void the warranty lol.
In aus mitsu offers a 5 years/ 100k km warranty which is very attractive - i hate having to repair my car.
I just wanna buy this car because of all the high-tech features it has, e.g. the twin clutch, bluetooth etc etc...
But i feel that in 2010, there's a very high likelihood that the HID and sunroof will be standard on the twin cluth RA - with unchanged horsepower and price, (and an upgraded manual with more hp etc will be offered)
This really makes me an idiot buying this car now. I might as well just wait a year. Sadly paitence is not a virtue that i have.... i sure hope the aus spec ralliart will be different to those in the states (hopefully they'll change some specs for the aus/euro models of the ralliart - i don't mind a delay... a short one)

Yes. The nav option will also have aux inputs for external devices. Expect a fully loaded WRX to be more than the Ralliart w/ Recaro package...
To the OP, I wouldn't expect a hp bump for the RA in '10. If anything, I could see Mitsu adding the manual tranny to lower the price. If you want the dual clutch, I have the a feeling there won't be any changes, ESPECIALLY for rated hp. If Mitsu doesn't offer super sport mode then launch control by itself would be a positive addition which would also help lower acceleration numbers for those magazine racers...

To begin with, the Nav system on the WRX is terrible.
And the sound system is not even close to what
offers.That's just to begin with.
You don't get a 40gig hard drive with it either.
wait a minute, did you mean price or amenities?

I don't see why it's even really a big deal that the WRX got a bump, if you read about the changes Subaru made, they're all minor (slightly larger turbo with larger diameter exhaust and higher flowing cat). I think the Ralliart will be fine, and I don't see Mitsu bumping it again next year unless the EVO is going up as well.
