I think the way the SST works does not help the mileage either. It holds the higher RPM's in town. My guess is the guy getting 29 is almost all highway where the trans settles down due to the better 5-6 gears. For stop and go it will not be easy to get good MPG unless they come out with the manny next year. At least gas here in OHIO is now $1.67! Is premium required or recommended?

That can't be the main problem -- if the automatic TC-SST is set to normal, then it's not too aggressive, and you can always just shift manually, if fuel efficiency is a big concern. I think that the main problem is that the car isn't at all efficient in stop-and-go traffic, because it just wasn't designed for driving in urban rush-hour traffic, or in daytime city traffic in general. Even in heavy traffic, there's lots of fun to be had on on-/off-ramps and off the line at lights, but that's hardly efficient driving :-)

My questions to this is:

Is the turbo spiking at 2K RPMS a reason?
Is is because the car is running so rich like the EVO?
or
Can we increase HP and detune the turbo a bit to get better fuel management?
Can we detune the turbo at (x) RPMS and have turbo spool up after (x) RPMS?
Can we get a chip that will improve all of the above?
Will a reflash help?

Those are some of my questions.
I am still troubleshooting why the car is wasting so much fuel.
Anyone?

The spike might be because of a delay between the closed loop map and the open loop map. The exact same thing happens on the WRX. A tune can fix that as well as give you more HP and better fuel efficiency.

word.
Now on these loop maps, these are changed and tuned by the ECU?
Correct?

Wow thats pretty damn good! I have 580 km on my Ralliart and I can barely reach 315 KMs ( with decent driving ...not granny style but not driving it hard either) Whats up with that. Do you think that it still has to be broken in or is this topic about it running too rich going to be a concern for the long run.

Any comments on this one

315 KM to a tank is absolutely ridiculous, that's worse than an Evo or an STI, hell that's worse than a Corvette. I seriously suspect the tune is just buggered which is a nice and easy fix.

315 km may not be as bad as it sounds if you live in Toronto (as the poster seems to) -- I expect some US cities have rush-hour traffic bad enough that 200 miles on a tank is pushing it in many ordinary cars. Toronto is definitely not a great city for traffic (Toronto's not NYC, but it's not too far off of Boston in traffic terms). In the end, in any large congested city, it all comes down to how much of rush hour you spend actually moving at a reasonable speed in your vehicle. Calgary (and Edmonton) are orders of magnitude better than Toronto or Vancouver (in US terms: mid-west cities tend to be better than Boston or Seattle).

[btw -- many thanks to the Ontario government for screwing up toll-highway relations with New Brunswick enough that I can zip along the 407 for free, bypassing most of Toronto -- can't wait to do that in a Ralliart... maybe sometime next month if I get back home to Ontario/Toronto]

True, I didn't notice he was in Toronto so maybe it's all city driving.
