This is one nice car...
Okay, so my wife finally convinced me to buy another car. Her requirements were few:
1. It must be a 4 door.
2. It must have cup holders.
3. It can not be purple.
4. It should be an automatic, but that's not a deal killer. (Translation it better be an automatic).
Okay, so here's a little about me.
First car: 1977 Toyota Celica Hatchback
Second car: 1979(80?) Datsun 210 Hatchback
Third car: 1970 Ford F250
Fourth car: 1980 Honda Civic (lasted 6 months)
Fifth car: 1993 Nissan 240SX Hatchback
Sixth car: 1995 Plymouth Voyager
I still own and drive the 240, I have owned this car for 9 years now and I love it! It is my daily driver.
However, the time has come, with our second child on the way, I have to face reality, it is time to "grow up and buy a 4 door sedan". So I began my research a few weeks ago. I first had to decide if I was going to buy a new car or a used car. I had been pre-approved for a loan that would cover either.
Ultimately I decided to go with a new car, less hassle, full warranty, etc.
Next I needed to go with something that has good resale value. I love the import tuner stuff (even if I lack the funds to go crazy). I also wanted something safe to carry my family. But I also like power and handling. I never really cared for the little extras like power windows, locks, etc.
Top of the list....Honda Civic Sedan Si, Subaru Impreza, Mitsubishi Lancer. I decided against the Subaru as I have no desire to drive a station wagon.
The Honda is okay, a little small, but it's sorta plain looking...no real character. Then I got a look at the Lancer close up! NICE!!! These 2009 Lancers look sweet!
So I spent a day or two on the website building different versions, I went to the dealership over the weekend (Sunday) to scope them out without any hassle from the dealer. To be honest I, wanted the EVO, but that was out of the question for a number of reasons.
On Monday I went to the dealership, and asked about the Lancers, I found a pearl blue Lancer with stick shift. the dealer and I took it for a spin, but it was getting late and I had to head home. I told the guy I was sold on the Lancer, we just needed to find the right one. I told him I would be back tomorrow, he told me okay and the next night he was a bit surprised when I showed.
I really was sold on the Lancer, I was just having trouble deciding on which one. I didn't really want the stick shift, but I liked the blue...and the red....or black.
Hmmmm....no luck finding the one I wanted. So I asked if we could put something together and order from the factory. He told me yes and we began to head back....then I saw it....red...beautiful...front end looked like an EVO!!!
So we took the rally red Ralliart for a spin....I drove home with it that night (Tuesday)!
This car is amazing, loaded with features I never really gave much thought to, wicked cool TC-SST transmission, AWD, cruise control, etc. Best of all it is just one short step down from the EVO, same basic engine...less turbo...possible upgrades later...yes...I get a tuner and the family gets a sedan!
And that is the story of how I ended up buying a 2009 RA, it's been turning heads for days now! I love this car, I only wish I could have gotten the Recaro Sport Package.
