Erratic Fuel Gauge
Erratic Fuel Gauge
So the fuel gauge says I have 30 miles left, and I can still see the red level on my console (not all the way down). I keep driving and after 5 minutes, the gauge shows the warning sign that I need to refuel! Instead of how many miles I have left, it shows "---". I exit immediately off the freeway and after refueling, the gauge says I have 290 miles left. After 5 minutes, it says I have 250 miles left! I keep driving and after another 5 minutes, it says I have 270 miles left!
Anyone know what's going on? Any advise besides having the service department take a look at it? Man...just got the car 2 weeks ago.

the miles left is calculated based on the current MPG number (shown on your display) and the amount of fuel left....so it will change if your instant MPG changes (saying going from highway driving to local driving)....my Ralliart consistently gets 220 miles per tank and my fuel warning always come on at around 200 miles...
Drive around town and use manual instead of letting it shift itself. Keep the RPM around ~2K and I see 25-26mpg tooling around town. However that is going grandma slow and we all know thats a pain in such a fun car hehe....

I know the book says 55L tank. I've never put more then 47.5L in the tank and that's after driving with fuel warning on for about 30 Kilometers. that means about 45L (or less) light came on (about 11.9 say 12 gallons) that seems pretty early to me. Anyone actually do a near full fill? (14.5G/55L)?
ive filled my gas tank til it spit gas out at me.. lol... and still only got 230 miles to the tank.. and yes the light usually comes on early for me.. and it will say i have 40 miles left then goes to --- but i did drive another 30 miles before i filled her back up.. wanted to make sure that i could push it another 30 after the light for just in case reasons.. lol
I believe there's a quarter tank left when the warning light comes on. That's how I've always treated it.
It is really scary in the 15mpg evo because sometimes the evo does 12mpg under boost.
The car can do over 300...All highway. IT should easily do 250 though.

My last fill up I did 415k for 43L which would = 530k for 55L. 530K mostly highway, 120-140k range, not easy but not hard driving. Converted for you Americans that's about 329 Miles a tank going 75-87 MPH about 80% highway. That's not bad really.
EDIT:
It does seem to do better since I flashed it, I'm getting about 15 MILES or so a fill up more then before in normal (non-stomping) driving.

well, the fuel tanks are of the "saddle bags" arrangement to go around the propeller shaft on awd. When fuel gets lower, the secondary pump distributes the rest back to the other side where main fuel pump is. That's why yer guage goes back up a little.
