my RA in auto-x

i just found this video of me auto-xing for my first time. all i can say, is that it was quite possibly the most fun i've had with my pants on.
check it out.

don't make fun of my driving. i know i suck! i also don't think this was my best run, but it's the only the guy caught.

i rode with this guy, and was able to shave 2 seconds off my best time because of it.
he still beat me by 6 seconds though. lol.

the soft suspension and horrible tires/rims didnt help much. once you upgrade those you'll be able to corner a lot faster without feeling like the cars going to flip over haha.

again, that was my first time driving auto-x, so i look like an ***. no worries.
i definitely want to drop it with some robispec springs and get some sways. then comes 17x8 rims (yes 17, less rotational mass) with some 245 comp tires.
then comes power mods. i want to tune, panel filter, uicp, and cat-back exhaust. should be a pretty sweet track machine after that.
and yes, that evo is mostly stock. he's only got a cat-back, light suspension mods and slick tires. did you see that thing lifting the back wheel?? that guy's a crazy good driver.

I went auto-crossing for my first time this past weekend too, here in Michigan. My RA is stock on stock tires. My times were pretty bad compared to everyone else. I was the only one there with stock tires. Good tires and good brake pads make a big difference, fyi.

definitely. i realized right away that i was being limited by my tires. i think i got beat by a stock '99 1.8t jetta. lol... pretty sad. that's why i'm waiting until i get some decent rubber to go back.

From: somewhere testing various tires, brakes, and suspensions.
Start with street tires, like the Z1* or RE11 or the ilk.

Then do susp. to get ride of that sway.

^Agreed, stay away from R-comps. Not only are they expensive but they hide your mistakes and can make it difficult to improve as a driver. I'd recommend just buying a set of nice tires, maybe sways and working on the nut behind the wheel.

i would definitely try this out... looks like fun.

i've already got some power mods, springs and sway bars. but im going to run the stock rubber until it dies before i upgrade. then i'll give this a try.
